A funny aside to my half-marathon today. At the start of the race there was a little fanfare about a woman who was trying to set a Guinness World Record for the half-marathon pushing a triple stroller. Apparently she had given birth to triplets a year or so ago. I didn't know the woman, who is from slightly outside my local area and is way out of my age group, but she's evidently a credible runner when not pushing a stroller. They started her right up on the starting line and I figured I'd reel her in immediately, but she was a lot faster with that stroller than I reckoned. I was about 10 seconds behind her up to about 7 miles, when we went down the one significant hill on the course and she pulled way ahead of me. However, not surprisingly she struggled coming back up the hill and I passed her just before the top. I was well ahead of her by 11 miles but then the calf cramps set in and I fell off my pace. Just before the finish I heard a huge ruckus around me and it was stroller woman, sprinting past me just before the finish. (I still beat he on chip time.)
It's disheartening to be passed by a woman pushing any stroller, particularly a triple-wide. But it did add some excitement to my race.
She broke the old record by something like 14 minutes.
