Fallback week anyway, then two days off due to respiratory, probably just allergies. Saturday was a disappointing day. The local half marathon was black flagged due to thunderstorms. I was volunteering which is usually a lot of fun chatting with the runners about their race but very few got to finish. Sunburn today.
Lavinia needs a thread started about her training. Does not sound at all like Ed's, but she is also getting results.
Lots of good races except for amkelley who probably should have just walked her relay leg. Now we need to hear from Mike Lundgren.
The weight discussion is interesting to me because I stopped tracking my calories four years ago when my marathon goal was a foregone conclusion. Of course my weight has crept up 15 pounds since then. Losing weight is never a problem for me, as long as the tendons don't give out. But if I can't exercise, I am in trouble. Lately rather than trying to cut calories I am trying to improve the quality. I am looking at everything, and found some pseudo-healthy choices I was making that have to go. As usual Charlie is all in, but I don't think in a sustainable or healthy way. Four pounds overall is not anything, but four pounds in a month in either direction is too fast. Two pounds per month is quite significant. Losing two pounds in a year is fine but losing 24 and gaining back 22 is a disaster. Of course, most who lost 24 would gain back 26. We'll see where Charlie is in two years.
@Allen1959 - Switching to nanny mode, knees are not a renewable resource. I would only "allow" you to train for a marathon if you have the issue solved and they are getting better while you train. Otherwise, no go. Wait a year. Am I wrong? Is there anybody here who thinks their knees are a good trade for a faster marathon time? In my experience running per se doesn't hurt the knees unless the shoes are wrong. Usually it has been something else: incorrect stretching, incorrect weight lifting, incorrect yoga, etc. Good luck getting it solved.
