Allen1959,
Thanks for asking. So far I’m pretty happy with my results and races. They’ve all gone well. And lately:
Fallen Heroes 5K. Not flat but not too hilly. The race started 30-minutes late! It was nice running weather, about 55-60F and cloudy. Perhaps a bit windy. Off we went and I hit the mile in 6:33. I caught some people after 2 miles and finished strong in 20:09 (6:29/mile avg), 9th out of 258. My young nemesis, Wrigley Longstreet finished 3 seconds ahead of me. I won the 52+ division (so did my wife for the women) and we each won a $25 gift certificate to a running store. Actually I won the 22+! Nobody over age 22 beat me!!
5 Points of Life (Gainesville) Half Marathon. The race started just after sunrise at 7:00am. It was not crowded up front at my pace despite 800 runners (half combined with full marathon). I didn’t get any splits until 6 miles in 43:20 (7:13/mile). So I was close to what I imagined I could run (7:15’s). I began to fade ever-so-slightly over the next 7 miles. On the uphills I had lost “power†and on the steep downhill from the Law School to Lake Alice I was hobbled by hurting quads. But I finished with vigor in 1:37:00 (7:24/mile avg), 1st in the 55-59 age group and 33rd overall out of 610. Among all men’s masters 40+ I was 4th ! This was my longest run or race since 2003 (14 years ago) when at age 43 I ran 1:24 half and 2:59 (in the Miami Marathon). My longest run in prep for this was 9-10 miles.
Not sure what’s next, most likely some 5K’s and I’ll try and break 20 minutes.
Keep it up everyone!!
