Week 235
*************************
Salutations, 50+ers! Continuing my sub-par trend yet another week as we ae moving on to finals week. This pattern of not getting enough sleep, dealing with constant interruptions, and just generally feeling a little off will hopefully come to an end soon. I did reach 20 miles for the week, which for me is a minimum threshold, though I would have preferred it be in four rather than three runs. The noticeably vacant logbook reads as such:
Sun: off
Mon: off
Tue: 4.1 progressive (7:25 -> 6:20, 6:51 avg pace)
Wed: 7.0 w/6x70-ft-high hill repeats
Thur: off
Fri: off
Sat: 9.0 w/4 at 7:00 pace (7:18 avg)
After several days off, the short progression just kind of happened. I wouldn't say that it felt particularly pushed until the very end. I followed that with some hill repeats the next day, which weren't meant to be pushed. My motive was simply to get over to the hill and run it a few times to just get reacquainted with it. Ran the slightly-over-quarter-mile all right around 1:50, with the sixth @1:47. When I've been fit, these get done in the mid-1:3x range. But I was pretty gassed by the sixth, which was a little disheartening, though my weight has gone up another pound or so; I'm teetering on 170!!! I've been told that lack of sleep is bad for your weight, I guess my current evidence supports that contention. My buddies all ran in the brisk, 27-degree morning, while I opted to run solo in the 50-degree afternoon. Following the Badgers win over the Temple Owls, I headed out to reach 20-miles for the week. Running alone, I was a bit impatient and ran a little too hard through six miles; after stopping for a minute to catch my breath, I was forced to ease off the final three.
KP, so glad to read that you're getting over your stress fracture! Practice good patience.
RF Reader, I hope that your race went well. Looks like the weather was pretty decent.
Welcome "New to the Thread": closest I've come is long intervals (like 1200m reps) followed by 200m reps. I definitely think it helped my finishing speed, but it may also have been a contributing factor to one of my (many) injuries, so in recent years I've shied away from doing concerted speed work. Would be curious about your experience.
RIP, Running Times Magazine---sad news.
OK. That's all I've got for the week. Hope your week has been more productive. Looking forward to reading about it!
All the Best!
