Would love the input from some of the 50+ people still pounding the pavement. I'm 55 and it seems that every time I start to sharpen for a race, something "breaks". I'm especially prone to hamstring/piriformis/sciatic issues.
Have any of you had reliable results from chiropractic methods? I'm starting to believe that an SI joint manipulation or lumbar adjustment may help but don't want to waste time and money.
I employ every hip and core strengthening exercise in the book, but this age thing is no match for them.
Thanks!
I'm somewhat fortunate as my new son-in-law is a chiropractor with his own practice. I kind of get preferential treatment...(but I did build his clinic...so it is a good trade-off)
I do get an adjustment pretty much monthly, sometimes twice/month. Not real sure what it does but he uses his little clicker thingy and hits different points all over my backside. Before the adjustment I lay on his roller table that rolls up and down my spine for about 10 minutes. Not sure what that does either but it really feels good! I had electro-stimulus treatment on my sore hamstrings last year. It seemed to speed the healing process. And currently I'm having my heal lasered to help break up scar tissue that is causing me lots of pain.
There have been times when I've hobbled in there and after a 10 minute treatment, everything felt fine almost instantly. Don't know what he did or how he did it, but I'm a believer! I always feel better after each treatment.
That reminds me...I need to get in to see him this week.
I'm not too good with the stretching/strengthening routines after runs. Maybe I'll do my little routine a couple times a week. I also use a foam roller occasionally.
