Congrats DrT!!!
No mo'pak environs around me, enjoy and keep posting on FB!
Re: 5k/marathon discussion, go for it! I think your longer stuff in the fall will feel good and be faster than you think. Nothing says you can't do 5k track work and still do some distance or long runs. Best wishes with whatever you decide to do!
Barring any delays, one more day of 'freedom' before the bone marrow transplant (BMT) process should start. Getting a bit nervous now, not fear, just knowing a big effort is coming up.
I read a very interesting review on exercise and stem cell transplant (which is what I'm actually having) that found that donor mice that exercised improved the survival of the recipient mice by 3 fold! Apparently the donor cells of the exercising mice were more stress resistant. My brother has been out walking. He can get in 12 days of exercise before the BMT. I'm feeding him cheese and putting him on a wheel too!
Week of 4/1
Mon 30+ min walk on treadmill, warm-up for 10 min starting @ 4.1mph @ 2% grade and increasing 1% grade every 2:30, then increase to 7% grade @ 4.2mph for the duration of the walk. RPE after warm-up 6, HRR ~ 70%. Muscle still sore form running.
Blood counts: WBC 5.07, RBC 3.26, Hemog 9.9, Hemat 28.7, platelets 330
Wt: 72kgs = 158+
Tue 30+ min treadmill @ 1% grade, 12 min warm-up starting at 5 mph increasing to 6 mph, then (3:00 @ 7 mph with 2:00 recovery @ 6 mph) X 3. Felt fine, RPE 6 @ 7mph, RPE 5 at 6 mph. Max HR 152 ~ 85%HRR. My max HR must be higher than that because that effort doesn't feel that hard, or else the low Hemoglobin from yesterday of 9.2 is affecting HR.
Wed 30 min steady after 6:00 warm-up from 5.5 mph to 6 mph all @ 2% grade, last 10 min of run at 6.2 mph. Felt good, easy, RPE 6, ~80% HRR (still doubt that for me), wore Garmin.
Thur no exercise, rest day.
Donor: walked 3+ miles, easy pace. Age 57, resting HR 70-80 estimate.
Fri 3.4 mile run/walk outside, felt a bit tired, 8 min & 7 min pace according to Garmin, RPE felt like 8 coming home, max HR 158.
Donor: walked 3.4 miles, easy pace.
Sat 3+ mile jog/walk outside, felt better. RPE ~ 5-6.
Donor: walked 6.37 miles, 932 calories, ave HR 112, max HR 133, ~ 60+ HRR even on stops. RPE 6.
Sun 3 mile run outside, 24 min, sub 8:00 last two miles, felt ok, RPE 6-7. Up to 85% HRR, still doesn't feel that hard.
Donor: 5 mile walk
Have a good week all!
