Hi CM, I just figured out who you are (lol). Welcome to 65-69 group (and just in time as Nate L. aged up to 60-64)
You did great on Sunday, congratulations! And that age grade 1:05:XX is certainly (in my opinion at least) is crazy fast. You must set your goals super high, not many could even dream of that level.
I agree Sunday's weather was certainly not ideal. It had just clicked to 71/72 degrees when I finished.
My race turned into a very hard (for my ability) tempo run. My right calf started to tighten up real early. Every time I tried to pick it up it started to cramp on the uphills. So I backed it off to a 85-90% run. Instead of an all out -put it on the line- race and just tried to keep Reno S. within sight.
That was fine as I my goal was to be there to give the club a decent chance to win the 60+ team. We accomplished that largely because the 1& 2 guys are...well....much much quicker than most 60s+.
And because I had the good sense to listen to my body, I don't even feel like I 'raced' 48 hours ago. My calf felt fine by Monday morning. Still I will probably only do another easy six today. And try remain sensible about the rest of the week. Then I can figure out if I want to think about refocusing for the mile at the end of June.
