Ok Dean, this is your second off post in 2 months (your first was when you discounted the wind at Boston). You normally post intelligently, but you're on a bad streak.
The main reason for sliding in baseball is to avoid the tag or break up the catcher's play at home plate. Since a tag is not necessary at first base, you seldom see a slide there. Yes, occasionally some players do slide at first, but they normally get laughed at. There is no way a slide to first is superior to an all out run through the base. Coaches never teach you to slide at first.
