LV should just rabbit the first mile and see if he can break 4:00. I can't really imagine any other reason for him being in the race.

So, it wasn't?
Just wondering. Thanks.
The 1500 was at 9:05 p.m. on day 5, August 29, 2007, while the 5000 was at 7:30 p.m. on day 9, September 2, 2007.

Interesting to look at Lagat’s head-to-head with each of his Pre 2M competitors:-
Tariku Bekele 4-2 to Lagat at 3000/2m, 5-5 all events
Eliud Kipchoge 3-0, 9-2
Edwin Soi 4-1, 6-2
Chris Solinsky 8-0, 16-0
Matt Tegenkamp 3-0, 12-0
Mo Farah 5-0, 9-0
Galen Rupp 5-0, 8-0
Mark Kiptoo 4-0, 4-0
David Bett 1-0, 1-0
Collis Birmingham 4-0, 9-0
Chris Thompson 2-0, 2-0
Wow, Solinsky has beaten Lagat 16 times!
I'm looking forward to seeing Alamirew and Kipchoge again, and hope it's a fast pace all the way.
Am I the only one who believes Rupp will be the second American? Lagat is still a clear favorite to be the top American, but I honestly believe Rupp will shock some people and be the second American.
Somebody needs to stick a maxi pad up your nostril. Pig boi.
L.V. is overrated!

Yup, the high school ranks are littered with 4:01 milers who also run 8:40i and 14:06i.
Lagat can be beaten, just not by those guys. Webb at his peak could do it at the mile/1500, and Wheating can do it. Teg ran a nice 10k but he hasn't yet shown a sign that he is close to his AR shape. It would be tremendous if he gets there this year, but Solinsky seems well ahead of him again.
Well would you just look at that!
probably lagat, then probably solinsky although maybe rupp, then teg. teg is not in that good of shape this year.
Pre would have friggin' loved to be in this race.

He's only run a best of 4:03.88i on the track which is what is relevant here. Although i would agree he's probably in better shape than that, if not sub 4.
1. No way Lagat loses to any of the oregon guys. No way! No F***ing Way!! The only way those guys would have a chance is if Lagat has an off-day. And that's not going to happen no way. Lagat is just too good, he is old but the advantage is that he has lots of experience and he was the second faster miler ever!! and thats one of the reasons he is still running so damn fast.. and he is no slowing down any time soon..
LV.. is a good talented kid but sorry that race is not going to bring him to German's record. Not happening!! that race is just going to go out too fast! Might as well just have him run a solo race. I bet his plan is just hanging on to the back of the pack and just hold it. Not happening! but I'll say that if he doesn't break the record at this race, his chances of breaking it in other races will be very unlikely that it happen.

LV will certainly break GF's record. The only question is by how much. Also, the only question is will he win the race since LV NEVER loses. Finally the only question is why some folks can't count.
You know why folks can't count, for the same reason you think LV will break German's record... haha give me a break!! and the funny thing is that you put a question by how much!?! please!! well lets just wait and see.
actually, technically singularly Noah Ngeny is the second fastest miler ever. Lagat is the second fastest metric miler. As for the question of, in a broader sense (to various degrees) of who the second fastest miler is, without getting into an all-time discussion, you could still say that, given Lagat's lengthy and strong 1500m career inc. Olympic finish second to Guerrouj.
This is going to be one heck of a race to watch, one heck of a race to tape and keep for the records. It invokes good memories, of Solinsky's last 2-mile outing where he flew past a fading Mottram (only to be deprived of further glory by drug cheat Ramzi), as well as, a few years earlier yet, an amazing american record by Tegenkamp and, up front, even more fabulous duking by Tariku Bekele and Mottram.
