I didn't see Kenenisa in that start list.

wow LV is going to be struggling just to bring up the rear on this one.
I predict a big sit and kick race. I'll be willing to bet that no one goes sub 8:09. There are too many good guys for them to run a fast time. They'll look at each other the whole time and no one will want to lead.
No plans for a rabbit?
So not much chance of Komen's 14 year old 7:58.67 record going down? It is an astounding time.

That's why they have rabbits, silly...In addition, if you paid attention you'd know that there are a couple guys in this field who would take the pace anyway. I would guess a minimum of 5 will be under 8:09, barring some extraordinary weather issues...

I believe Jon Rankin is going to be a rabbit...

Bernard Lagat, USA. Double World Champion in ’07 at 1500 and 5000 (think the 2-Mile is the perfect distance for him?)
Does anyone else think that Lagat's 2007 double is a little overrated? Wasn't the 5k like 13:45 or something really slow? I mean, it was essentially a 400m dash unless I'm mistaken (which I'm totally open to the possibility of hah!). And who was in that 1500m field?

Rabbits do not guarantee a fast race. 5 under 8:09? Give me a break. Your expectations are way too high. I doubt theres anything I could say to change your attitude. We'll see on the 4th.

Agree with you. Doubt anyone will go below 8:09. Not that they couldn't, just that they won't.

Ok, well I'm obviously too stupid to understand why. Will you please fill me in?

Considering there are more than 10 men entered, I'd have to agree...
Considering how many people are in the race is irrelevant to his odds of winning, i'd still agree, but also agree you're not so smart.

1) No.
2) Rashid Ramzi, Asbel Kiprop, Nick Willis, Alan Webb.

Lagat in another race has run 12:59 closing in 51.9 to beat Bekele if i remember correctly. So i'm not sure the pace is actually very relevant. He's shown he can close better than anyone in the world off of a fast pace (for a world champs).

Not sure but I thought that the poster was referring to the fact that a 13:45 will not take much out of Lagat, thereby leaving him fresh for the 1500, thereby making his double a bit less impressive.
But I admit that I am just guessing as to the poster's intent.
kipchoge will likely take the lead at 2k and push the pace, so it should be a fast one, even close to 8 flat.

Which would make perfect sense if the 5k was before the 1500 that year.
Lagat, Solinsky, Rupp, and Farah will be close (Teg and Bumby won't be), but the way the three Africans looked in the first Diamond League has me thinking an American (or Farah) wil be lucky to crack the top 3. Lagat hasn't looked good in a hot paced race for a while and Sol, Rupp and Mo just don't have the legs to close the last 800 the way they need.
BroJo's can we get an interview with the meet director? I'd love some insight on how he got every (healthy) major distance runner in world to Eugene. I mean seriously, this must be one of the best meets ever on US soil.

isn't it because this is the first year the meet is part of the diamond league series?

So, it wasn't?
Just wondering. Thanks.
The meet director did a great job of getting the studs but he did a poor job with getting the pacers. Without pacers everyone will look around at each other. And trust me - Jon Rankin is not going to last all that long. Is there seriously only one pacer in the field? lol.
