how are these guys 1500m prs so bad? I would think 3:50 or better would be easy for them.
Thanks, Brofest, for bringing us back to what matters here at LR!
I wonder what their 5k PR's are? What pace do they run their 8 mile tempos? When will they run a half?
Next up... Why haven't these guys moved up to the 1500? And will they waste their time competing at Regionals, Nationals, and maybe in Europe when they could be building base for Cross?

How about 1:45 low for first and second, that is a stunner, as no other meet in the US has been run that fast.
and typical letsrun douche...

1:45 = super impressive. 1:50 = not top 8 at Big 12 or Big 10.
Ding-bat = just a douche....
I had never heard of Ryan Martin until now. But with that beard, I'm now a big fan.

Exactly, the whole point of this thread was to talk about how impressive the top two runners were, not how unimpressive 3rd place was you whore.

7th place at Big 12s was 1:50.11.

And some high school history as well (Typo on Jock's grade level; he was a junior at the time).
These guys are 400/800 guys, who rarely run anything above that. Does it really matter what they're 1500 PRs are?
Their 1500 PRs determine how strong they are...which gives us an idea of how they'd fare in rounds. Jock's 400 PR is impressive for a 800 guy in college, Martin can drop a lot more

Obviously you weren't you trick
Ryan Martin, also known as Rymar for those who are a bit closer to him has split a 45.5 in the relay and ran a 21.79 several years ago in the open 200. Clearly, he and Jock aren't 800/1500 guys, theyre 400/800 guys. Ryan used to run the 100 in high school as a warm-up for his 800 (as well as running the hurdles).. im sure Jock can have similar PRs in the sprints so obviously theyre probably not going to have a sub 3:50 under their belts
Now here's the question: Why is UCSB's recruiting class so lackluster this year (and the past few years really)? Looks like almost no one is going to UCSB, despite the fact that they are consistently one of the best distance schools on the west. Compare that with UCLA, Cal Poly, etc. who have awesome recruiting classes and it really is strange.
It's because they have VERRRRRY little money to give. The guys that do go there end up running really well if they last the through the first couple years at such a beautiful school. They're a blue collar type school... they work for everything the get. I think its foreshadowed through Martin's beard. Here are their past recruiting classes:
Class of '14
1:49 - Dotson
9:13 - Rausa
9:22 - Salinas
1:55 - Goodheart
Class of '13
4:07 (split) - Brady
4:13 - Raedel
9:23 - Cox
Class of '12
a ton of sub 4:20 guys and 9:20 guys
most noteably Acosta (sub 15 at Mt Sac) and Doolittle 4:13
Class of '11
1:53 - Martin
9:12 - Pilavjian
9:14 - Petrillo
1:54 - Rotan
4:18 - Whichard
They just recently recruited a few pretty good guys, not sure exactly who. Some of the top names that i know for sure are Vaziri (1:52) and Ortolan (1:54).. Spencer Allen of El Toro and some other kid that ran 15:20 at the CA state meet also. I'm not sure about the others
Ya, they're one of those schools that does really well with almost nothing. It's unfortunate for them that they don't have to money to get guys that other schools can get. I'll bet you'd see them at nationals in xc every year and many of them qualifying for nationals in track if they were even just half-funded. Props to those kids and Coach Dolan
HAHA
Definitely not 46. Maybe low 45.##. (.1 or .2) Remember when timing relay splits, to clock the stick in the middle of the zone (finish line) not the actual exchange. A common mistake I see at just about every track meet I've ever been to at all levels. I'm sure there is an FAT split of each exchange with the camera at the finish line, except maybe the 1st because of the 3 turn stagger. Time the baton at exactly 400 meters. If you time the exchange, the anchor runner gets clocked running 405+.
nathan strum has a 3:48 1500m time at Payton Jordan. That guy has a great kick. He's someone you should watch in the future because he has a great kick!
I ran against him in high school(hes one of the top 800m runners in the nation last year) and got blown away from him. He's a nice guy too.
