Cordes was just cruising, saving his energy to WIN nationals.....you heard it here.....an american will take all the foreigners this year and do it in style.
Nick was crusing, but I dont think he will win D2's this year. He definately shut it down though at about the 3m mark. Byrne and some St. Joe's kid tried to go with him at the mile, but he had them dropped hard by 2miles. He will be top 10 forsure, maybe top 5. There are alot of good guys out there Western has a solid 1-3 and the 2 leaders out of the south both went sub 30.(maybe it was an easy course) All I know is I will be rooting for Cordes and GVSU to take top 8 this year so we can get 3 teams out of the region next year.
man the south regionals course was a nice course but it wasn't easy. there was a very strong wind blowing in the guys face from the gun till the end. jacob and zeph both looked good, jacob lead most of the way but zeph took him at the end. i say look out for those to at Nats. go south region.
Yeah, I didnt know anything about the South, GL was pretty damn windy too, seemed like everytime you made a turn the wind was in your face. Jacob and Zeph should both be top 5.
Let's hear it for Eric Fleming, 11th place and only a freshman.
I don't think it's the two guys from Western State to worry about. how about Abilene's guy? ANy word on others around the country ?
zeph looks very strong. he just hung on jacobs shoulder after leading for about 1.5 miles then took him out the last mile. jacob did most of the work, but zeph took the win by several seconds. if the pace doesnt take off from the gun, zeph has the tools and speed to win. im still giving the favorite status to rugema though.
Let's hear it for Mark Terpstra, 7th place and only a freshman. AND going to nationals.
Hmm... if the pace doesn't go from the gun, huh? What does that mean? Zeph led through the mile in 4:32 and they reached the two in 9:24. You must mean someone's really gonna take it out, like at 28:30 pace. Who would that be?
Zeph was just smart enough not to fry himself covering all of Jacob's surges. He just hung back, caught up when Jacob tired, and gunned him in the last 400.
pretty much everyone and their mother knew the first mile was a little short. when i meant take off from the gun, i mean go hard the first mile and not back off. if it was a 9:24 3200 split, then thats a 4:58 second mile supposely. the pace at nats wont back off that much. the abilene boys have been known to take it out. i believe rugema was sub 4:30 at chile pepper and hit 2 well under 9:20. zeph really impressed me this weekend and im not counting him out, but a big race with many favorites is a much different style than a one-on-one race where one guy has a mile pr of over 10s faster than the other one. nats should tell it all.
Lets hear it..... Levi Brathall 16th in the HARDEST region and going to nationals as a true freshman
yeah, zeph is a smart dude and i believe he will be able to hang at nats jocab will also do well. it would be nice if zeph and jacob comes in 1 and 2. look out people south region is on fire.
last i checked this was about great lakes...
