Aquinas dominated region VIII at Indiana Weslyan. Course was flat but in the middle of a field which made for slower times. Freshman from Taylor ran away with the individual championship. Aquinas won with like 54 pts, taking 5,10,11,13,15. #11 Siena Heights was 2nd with 70pts and ran a great race as well. Grace finished 3rd with a score somewhere in the 90s.........Both teams should get at-large bids.
I forgot to say that it was slow because of a very strong head wind the runners faced on straight aways that were at times a half mile long.
Does anyne have results for Region X?
Lady Vikings Earn Bid To NAIA National Meet
The Berry College women's cross-country team is headed for the NAIA national meet - that much we know for certain. Whether or not the Berry men will be joining them is yet to be determined. The Lady Vikings earned an automatic berth to the national event by claiming a share of first place during Saturday's Region 11 meet.
The Berry women finished with 41 points, tied for top spot along with Cumberland University. Thus, in a rather rare scenario, both schools receive automatic berths to the national meet on Nov. 23 at the University of Wisconsin-Parkside.
"You don't see ties in cross country very often," said Berry coach Paul Deaton, "but this was definitely a good time for us to be involved in one. The girls are very excited about going to nationals, and they have worked hard for it."
Nora Carr led the way for the Lady Vikes with a time of 19:31, second only to Pikeville's Ann Chatyator, who won the meet with a time of 18:49.
Carr was named to First-Team All-Region, as were two of her teammates - Rebecca Copley (3rd place, 19:38) and Erin Hardin (18th, 21:38). Former Pepperell star Doran Mabry earned Second Team honors by finishing 11th with a time of 20:53. Also running for the Lady Vikings were Laurie Cook (18th, 21:38), Marla Goldsmith (32nd, 22:56) and Joy Deaton (40th, 23:20).
The Berry men, meanwhile, narrowly missed grabbing an automatic bid to nationals, as they finished second at the Region 11 event. The Vikings will now have to wait until Monday to find out if they will get one of the 14 at-large bids to the national meet.
"I think we have a pretty good shot at it," said Deaton about his No. 20-ranked Vikings. "The team ran very courageously today, and I hope we will be rewarded with some good news Monday."
Cumberland, ranked No. 7 in the nation, won the region event with 26 points, and Berry was second with 55. Pikeville (79 points) finished third, fol-lowed by Lindsay-Wilson (124) and Cambellsville (142). Individually, Eric Kweeder of Cumberland won the meet with a time of 24:57.
All seven Berry runners who competed in the race finished in the top-25. Jay Stephenson was the highest ranking Viking, finishing third overall with a time of 25:45. He was named to First-Team All-Region for his performance.
Brett Dettmering (9th, 26:55), Zack Huston (11th, 27:23) and Luke Godleski (13th, 27:37) were all named to the All-Region Second Team. Also running for Berry were Caio Soares (19th, 28:31), David Kawa (20th, 28:34) and Ben Krichko (22nd, 28:43).
Both the Vikings and Lady Vikings won the TranSouth Conference titles based on Saturday's times.

What happened to SOU's men's team, talk about peaking:)
As for ties at regionals, yes, both teams do go and, no, a ranked team will not be bumped by a piss-poor Xavier or Berry.
from the NAIA XC Coaches Manual....
"If there is a tie for first place at a regional qualifying meet, then both teams qualify for the national championships. This will not affect the number of at-large berths."
Apparently, bot Regions 7 and 8 have five individual qualifiers
http://www.naia.org/xc/mxcountry/championship/2002/qualifiers.html
Anybody know why?
Can't say for sure b/c I can't find the rules for qualification on the naia website, but it used to be that top five individuals from each region, minus the top team runners.
I was told that there was a new rule that states that the top 12 runners from each region will get to go to nationals now... This happened in Region1 were the 12th place guy gets to go to Kenosha. I think this rule is in effect for all regions now. I think that this is a good idea personally. It gives some other people a chance to run as well as a chance for AA status...Now does this add too many people to the race??? I don't think the numbers will be that many more but 15 more runners is just that.
The top 5 individuals not on the winning team advance to Nationals. Say a team wins with 15 points, the next 5 individuals advance (6-10 unless they are the pushers for the winning team). At large berths don't affect this; if a team gets second and later on gets a bid, the runners on that team, though no longer considered individual qualifiers, still take up those individual spots. So if a team in that same hypothetical region gets second finishing 6-10 they all count toward the qualifying number and they do not take the next 5 runners. This may sound kind of confusing, sorry about that.
Hey W, Did you also see how peaked out Warner Pac. was at the Region 1 meet? Man, them and SOU's men really peaked great!:)

Yeah we are all peaked out. Guess our season is over with. We did not even peak for this race fully. Our inteval workout was 5x a mile on Tuesday with a fartlek on Thrusday. We still have two weeks of racing ahead of us. No way we were peaked out for this race. Clancy had an off day, Abbott did not feel good, Reed got in a car wreck two weeks ago and Hartman has tendinitous in his knee. OUr team is really banged up right now, but we are still training to peak next week at NAIA's.
I agree G-Q,
I think that SOU and Warner Pac. looked horrible at the Regionals meet. I would call them a deer in my headlights if you know what I mean:) Talk about choking, I guess they must have got a bunch of that wet mud from the course in their eyes. Well I guess I can't talk to much because Our team wasn't very good this year, like normal, but we did run well when we needed to, for example Perry qualifying individually for nats. when he hasn't been running well most of the season. That guy is one tough SOB, but it did help that he ran tough and others Sh*t the bed at regionals. Well good luck to all that are going to nats. and good job WarnerFreak for telling all in the nation what you guys are doing for workouts, how about you just tell them hey this is how you can beat us on the nats. course. good one bud, see ya
good Call OIT Man,
I agree that Perry ran great at regionals and that others didn't have such a great day for whatever made-up reason we hear on this board, but the truth is excuses smell about as good as my ace, and they are about as solid as my sh*t. So, stop making them and just run, good call OIT Man.
Saw Concordia won thier region. Nebraska Wesleyan smoked them bad @ their conference meet the week before. Is Concordia a top 10 NAIA team?
I think you are mistaken about the individuals. If you look at region V, a kid from baker was awarded a trip to nationals even though he was not in the top 5 after you took out the winning team. I think how it works is they take out all the teams that qualify for the National meet and then take the next top 5 runners not on those teams, but they only look at the top 12 individuals in the whole race. So Looking at region V again... The Thurston Kid would have been the last guy to recieve a bid to go if his team would not have gotten a bid. This is the way I understand the rule. It is a little confussing, but that is how it works.
Nebraska Weslyan does not compete NAIA in post season. I believe that they are DII. It is one of those weird teams that competes at both durning the regular season. But I think that Concordia is deffinately a good candidate for a top 10 team. However they did look kind of weak at Mt. Marty, but have since gotten it together and started running well.
