This is supposed to make you seem more logical?

Can't be drunk all day if you don't start early.
What kind of wimp gets hurt running a road mile? What do you guys think is going to happen, he's gonna pull a hammy? At 2:00 pace? No way. He'll be fine. I predict 4:03.X
he ran a great marathon and now he wants to run shorter distances, which is great; maintain the connection to his speed or get it back, race on the track this summer at 5 and 10: that's what Ritz did in his great 2009. However, everyone needs to come back gradually from a marathon, get some rest, do base miles, add in the strides, get back to workouts, and then race. Not quite the plan here.

Yhis is the dumbest comment on this thread. An athlete is most likely to get hurt running FAST not running far. An athlete is more likely to get hurt running FAST while their body is in the recovery stage. It takes about 4 weeks to completely recover from a marathon. This is a dumb decision.
You don't think he runs 60-second quarters in practice? 4 in a row is in all likelihood not gonna injure the guy. It's not like we're asking him to run a 23 second 200.
can Hall run USAs at 10000 and potentially go to Daegu? How cool would that be? Unless you were the guy who took fourth I suppose.

So you think he would be safer doing, say, a 100k?
I think it is kind of cool that he is doing it, but it is also kind of crazy when you think about it.
I don't think Hall even believes he is in shape to string together 60 second quarters. With out knowing exactly what he has been up to the last two weeks, I can tell you with almost absolute certainty that he will not run sub-4.
How sure am I about this...if Ryan Hall runs a 'true' mile under 4 minutes, I will never post of Letsrun again.
'true' as in not a down hill or slightly short course.

It doesn't matter how fast he runs, it is still a dumb decision with far too much risk.
He's doing a road mile, not the TdF.
For everyone thinking he may have trouble breaking 4:10 - this guy ran 3:42 ten years ago as a high school kid and he's developed into one of the best Americans ever over hm/marathon, you can't be serious. I remember watching Josh McDougal run a low-key mile after everyone had been talking about how he didn't have the leg speed to run sub 4 and he runs a 3:57 by himself. I dunno what the course or competition is like, but it's ludicrous to think Hall couldn't break 4 if he wanted to.
If God wanted him to, you mean
Cool. I'll watch. Hall is always interesting to follow.
I doubt he'll go under 4 on the road the 1st time out, especially on the road, but if he's serious he'll go under 4 (or 1500 equivalent) during the season, just like Ritz going from marathon training to the 5000 AR.

There are lot of people who say that, but it has never been true; I would not expect Hall to run faster than 4:05 and that's being generous. Marathon training makes you strong and able to run negative toward the end of a race, which in essence is a kick, but that is not the same as speed. In a mile, you have to run fast the whole race, which something different from usual lopping or slouching marathon stride.
Yes, a lot of people, including Haile himself, right after he broke the 2 mile indoor world record off of marathon training and injury.

If Ryan manages to break 4 minutes in the mile, he will do something that has never been done or even attemped to the best of knowledge. - Think about the circumstances.
Hall is in the mold of Radcliffe and (name from the past) Charlie Spedding. He needs to maintain his 3-5k ability at all times if he is to run well at the marathon. I said this long ago and maintain it still. It will be no surprise if he takes part in a 1-mile race and does well.

This.
I say 4:05+

No, not really. In fact, in terms of marathon training I hope he doesn't.
That's not to say I think he he'll get injured (why would he?) or that he can't break 4 (I think he can if he trains specifically for it). I just doubt that (eg) 3x4x400 in 60 or even 63-64 is something he'd want to do, or even could do, during marathon-specific training.
In what context/workout do you think he does 60-second quarters?
HuH? 12 X 400 in 64??? I could run that in my 40's and the kid is on a different planet than I am.
He ran 4 mile equivalent as a high school kid...I think he has improved a bit as a runner. One race will prove nothing, except what he can run in one race, but over the course of a season - can he break 4 minutes??? Does this even deserve an answer?

Congratulations, you win the award for most ridiculous post on this thread!

Good for you. Ngeny is said to have done did exactly that set (with 400s in 60 and 1:1 rest - maybe you took more?) a few weeks before his mile PR, so you're in good company.
I already agreed Hall can break 4. Not sure if you read that before your missing-the-point post.
As I said (and again, as I guess you missed), I just doubt that he does sets of 400s at 4:00 mile pace during marathon training. Maybe I'm wrong. But I don't think so. Maybe you'd like to answer the question you ignored: In what context/workout do you think he does 60-second quarters?

Yup- 4:01 after a 75 minute warm-up.
Ritz did pretty well when he moved down from the marathon, perhaps it's a good thing for Hall to try as well. I'm excited to see how he does.
Is there a rule against attaching a helium balloon to yourself while running a road race?
Am I living in the twilight zone? The Boston Marathon weather was terrible!
How rare is it to run a sub 5 minute mile AND bench press 225?
Move over Mark Coogan, Rojo and John Kellogg share their 3 favorite mile workouts
Mark Coogan says that if you could only do 3 workouts as a 1500m runner you should do these
Red Bull (who sponsors Mondo) calls Mondo the pole vaulting Usain Bolt. Is that a fair comparison?
