If they ever come by my way I'm definitely streaking through the protest.
Also got to give props to the Hells Angels who set up the human barricade at the funerals

If they were minorities the liberals would be up in arms over their treatment. Therein lies their hypocrisy. You cannot chose when freedom of expression is allowed or you may suffer the consequences.
WBC has a hefty schedule. They're out protesting funerals every day. It's plenty of work to protest what God has decided.

Southern Boys know how to get the job done.
The story isn't true.
It just another story from the South. Instead of actually standing up to bigotry and hatred, the Southern man is content to dream up a story about how tough and brave he is. Sherman should've kept going.

because you have to take the bible 100% literally to be a "true" christian?
believe it or not...there is no such thing as a "true" christian...if a person believes in christ...they are a true christian
you...are a prick
I'm no expert on these bozos, nor am I a Biblical scholar, nor am I a Constitutional lawyer.
As to WBC's "Christianity," let's begin by avoiding the discussion of whether it's a "fairy tale" or a "mindgame" or "brainwashing" or whatever.... Let's just accept that some, including myself, believe, and that WBC puts it at the center of its "ministry." Everything I've read about WBC quotes the Old Testament, often Leviticus, which I believe contains more hell-and-damnation per page than any other book in the Bible. On the other hand, if you believe the story, Christ (the foundation of Christianity, of course) came to Earth to offer love, grace, and compassion. I would hesitate to call the WBC people Christians, because it seems they have missed the Messiah's point. I'm happy to call them Old Testamentists, or maybe Leviticites.
And as to a question posed by another poster, I think we could draft a law that exempts cemeteries from public discourse. I really don't understand the protections WBC has received. The Court has recognized "time, place, and manner" restrictions on free speech. This one seems far more obvious than some of the cases to which the restrictions have been applied.

Indeed. And by that reasoning there are many fewer Christians (or what we might call "Christ-like" people) in America than the statistics might indicate. What do you think Christ might like to say to Glenn Beck and the idiots who take him seriously?

Ha! When it was Afghans rather than "good ol' southern boys" committing violence in reaction to freedom of speech it was the conservatives who blamed the Arabs for being violent dirty people who don't understand freedom.
As much as we'd like somebody to take out Phelps and gang, this story is NOT TRUE. Fark.com had it on over a week ago and it's just some Internet Tough Guy at an Ole Miss sports board. Westboro threatened to protest this funeral; however, they never even showed up in town. This is common, they threaten to protest just as many funerals as they actually show up at.
People, keep in mind that no other news agency picked up this story. Let's face it, this would be national news if it happened. Secondly, Westboro doesn't even mention it on their site, and you better believe they'd do that because they want the world to know how big the lawsuit would be against the city because the police failed to protect them.
So much for the wet dream.
this type of thing has been in the news. look up "the patriot guard" on youtube. a bunch of bikers with flags that block protestors at military funerals.
