Good points. Just none of them have won a NC doesnt mean they arent digging deep. I wouldn't say they have don't try hard because they arent so called "hardcore like Malmo"

Seen both of those races, and if you have, then you too would agree that neither Foster nor Loxsom dig deep at the end of races. In fact, that's the glaring difference between then and they runners next to them in those races. They run like robots. Sorry if that bothers you. I suppose I'm a 'bitter, jealous hater' now? I get it.
It has nothing to do with winning a national champiohsip or being 'hardcore'. It has everything to do with being a competitor first and foremost.
Go back to any videotape of the PSU crew racing. It's all the same. Compare them to the raw racers around them.
They could all learn a lot from Greg Fredericks who went from Dr Jeckyl to Mr Hyde in split second during races. He'd tell them that once you start kicking to "commit" which Greg was brutal at doing.
Malmo you're out of your depth on this one. I'm not going to start calling you a hater because I have a feeling that's what you want. What I am quite happy to call you is an idiot. After all you're more than happy to throw that label around more than most other posters.
I'm going to guess you watched those races on video. You're making a judgment call on the efforts of runners you know little about. Maybe if you knew the kids at all you could make some call on whether they are digging deep or not, but all you are doing is spouting opinions formed from something you perceive to see from a taped races.
Maybe if they flailed around at the finish and grimaced a lot you might have a different perception. You're not in their heads so I don't know where you're witnessing this supposed lack of emotion
There is probably no point me arguing this one with you because judging from your usual irritability in anyone calling you out and your tendency to remain stubborn nothing will convince you you might be a little off. Maybe try talking to somebody who actually has first hand experience watching them race because they sure put up some fast times for guys that apparently lack competitive spirit.
No, no, nope, you're wrong, bitter-jealous-hater.
Do I smell a little bromance, limpy?

I gotta love it. You rant on about my not knowing what's going on inside of the PSU crews minds then proceed to know what's inside my mind with crazy talk: my 'usual irritability'. Oh my goodness.
Here is what non-robots look like. Those guys had fire in their eyes. What's more is that they had that fire BEFORE they become good. They were hungry and the refused to lose.
jeez malmo, you sound like a big dummy on this one. how can you call out a whole team's efforts like that? you really gotta get off your high horse.
Well here you go then Malmo: I was wrong, maybe you aren't irritable all the time, I don't know what's going on in your mind.
Why don't you take that perspective and try it on your argument. You know, the one where you seem to have this amazing insight into a team you have nothing to do with and of which the members probably don't know you from a bar of soap.
I'm just speculating from what I've seen. You can post videos of that 'fire in the eyes' if you want? Here's what fire looks like:
They didn't have 7:11 on paper, but they ran 7:11:

umm that video is terrible for this argument. Its a freaking picture. Yeah that lion stature is most "fire" about that video. Find a video of the actual race if you are wanna show us "fire".
heres what fire looks like
since when is the look on your face indicative of how hard people are digging? I feel like all the facial contortions and flailing arms are more for the fans' benefit than anything. You do know you actually run faster if you keep your face relaxed and maintain your form though the finish?

.
Evidence?
an article in the New York Times by Pina Kolata? I'm surprised you didn't cite Runners World.
How about this for digging deep? I know they aren't Gina Kolata's target audience (hobbyjobggers). But trust me - these guys are competitors to the bone.
did you even watch that race? the runner who won, lagat, was clearly the most relaxed one out there. At the opposite end, kipchoge had all the fire and grit and facially obviously digging, yet got dropped the worst through the finish. come on now
You realize the guy who won looks like he's going for an evening stroll, malmo?

Yeah, you're right. He doesn't want to win. No emotion. No fire. What a puss. Probably would've run 1:44, if only this Tin Man had a heart.
Galen Rupp after his 1314i: "The plan was just to relax as much as possible,”
Nick Willis: "Now I'm learning to be a bit more pumped on the outside and then in the last 200 really relax while still striding through like I did in (the gold medal run in) Melbourne two years ago"
Even for the sprints, according to Clyde Hart: relaxation is the key factor in running the 200.
Malmo - this is where you really don't know what you are talking about.
Foster wins this race and runs a 1.5 second personal best at that time. It is from the NCAA Championships in at Arkansas 2 years ago.
So really - no fire? Come on.
