Andrews has never run faster than he did here. I think calling it stupid is kind of presumptuous.

You're right. Wheating is in a different league, and that's why I don't accept his results as legitimate. It goes along with the "amazing" improvements last summer after losing to a freshman, and the very extended period of no racing. Now, apparently no out of competition testing (unless they're actually sitting on a positive) for at least a quarter.

If Wheating was from Jamaica, Morocco, or Spain with those stats, almost every person on this board would call him a doper.

He was a collegiate athlete for a major portion of time; see any other NCAA people on that list. NCAA has their own testing and a positive will get you noticed but will not be on the USATF listing at that time. Also, any testing in Europe would not show up here and he went from being NCAA to being in Europe a lot, so USATF would not have the testing except from USADA, I think. Others could provide more specificity, but I think that is the case.

I see this guy MRR92 is still posting idiot statements like this. Been going on for nearly a decade now, harking back to Dyestat and such. Mike, just stop pretending you know what you're talking about. NO, he didn't run a technically perfect race. Wrong MIKE. He ran an incredible last 400 and lost. He got gapped and lost. A very good run for Andrews, but technically not so good.

I can't imagine anyone starting their career out doping; Wheating just completed one of the greatest championships ever for a NCAA middle distance runner...why would Wheating or anyone else think now is the time to start taking drugs. (That makes zero sense!) Pretty much all of Letsrun knew there was a fast 1500 in store for him becasue he is a racer and in the NCAA he raced to level of talened he was competing against. In the NCAA he was often doubling and sometimes tripling and in championships having to run rounds. I was pretty obvious that he was going run much faster when focused on one race againt better athletes.

Most dopers are athletes trying to hang onto their career, less talented athletes trying to get to the top, talented athletes trying to stay on top or they are part of a system where doping is what the whole group does a matter of practice. Which one of those group would say Wheating fits in?

The front end of the race was even paced.

Not even paced for Andrews, who closed in something close to 52, I think. (26 seemed right for his last 200, at least).

A comment about the race video:

Does anyone else think this type of video of this race, shot from one location, is much more pleasant to watch than the so called professional coverage where they cut to a different view every 5 seconds and always zoom in?

I am not saying this coverage was perfect of course. I would prefer a shot above the finish line and the ability to zoom in more than this did. But I am simply saying that a single shot angle is better for watching track and field than cutting between too many camera angles. When that happens, it is harder to tell what is happening in the race.

Not to say that we are getting the time drops that you would expect (but rarely get) from middle distance runners in moving from indoors to out (maybe the base training from xc but strength work and VO2 max from indoors do more than the high speed stuff they are doing now), but going by the list below there are already 11 guys with sub 4 equivalent times at 1500m. Farrell is 12th at 3:42.23, just above the 3:59.99 equivalent (3:42.21). Batty first at 3:36.

An even-paced 3:40 is not a great recipe for championship racing. But congratulations to your guy for getting a W under his belt in preseason action.

Exactly. This guy is looking really good. Andrews couldn't touch O'lionaird at 5k/10k, and now got beat by him at 1500.

Nonetheless, it's very early. Let's see if these gentlemen can hold their fitness for two more months.

No joke. I never saw anything about it. I saw his name mentioned, but not that race. All I see is about Andrews.
