Pretty good effort, better than some recent ones.
Don't call it a come back, BECAUSE GERMAN HAS BEEN HERE FOR YEARS!!!!!
Is there a video of the race anywhere?
He ran faster than this in high school
Dorian Ulrey ran faster before as well and much, 3:35.x
This year?
3:42.76 to go with his two 1:50's 800's
I do not hear you raling on him?

So every time Alan Webb fails to run under 3:53 for the mile he is done, too?

I do not care to point out every single runner that is running slower than they should. But I do care to point out that 3 years after HS Dave Smith and OSU cannot get the greatest distance runner to ever grace our presence to run faster than when he was an 18 year old kid with no competition and no training partners.
We have three runners in this country that can be the best in the world, and do some amazing things that bring all of us to excitement each time they race. One is doing the right thing, training for many years under a coach who systematically and progressively improves him and knows his body and doesn't force opposing training styles on him. The other two runners, can't run as fast as they did in HS, and are in training programs that do not suit them, and will not be the same again until they get into either the original program or something similar.
What's the excuse this time? did he get hit by a car during warmup?
well, at least it's better than a 4:17 mile, but I agree with MM.
Who are these three runners in your mind? And which is the one getting it right?
After giving it some thought, I should have said 4 runners.
2 have it right. Solinsky. Rupp.
2 do not. Fernandez. Webb.
You may argue that Hall and Ritz and whoever else are great runners and the best we have at their distance. But they will never be the best in the world. These 4 I listed actually have a shot.
Wheating? Though I guess this will be a telling year, he progresses anymore and he is one of the best in the world, he stagnates and he is a very good American.
Not a bad race for German. He was beaten by only six other collegians in a regional type event, but still is running much slower than two years ago. Personally, I think he needs to try to get a shoe contract and get out of Okie State before he is done forever. This may be the only race he finishes this season.
Like it or not Webb has had a better career than Rupp
he is the AR record Holder at a mile
Rupp holds no records.
even his(Webb's) up the ladder marks are not far off, they were run a long time ago
Are you on crack?
Galen Rupp holds the AR for the 5000m (i) and broke the 10,000m AR losing to Solinsky.
Results from the 1500.. since that was the purpose of the thread anyways...

If no one else will (for whatever reason), I'll admit: you make some very sound arguments/claims. Solinsky and Rupp have been improving steadily over a number of years, with both holding the AR in the 5/10k. Hall and Ritz also have AR on their resumes' respectively. Fernandez just seems flat. He seems emotionally beaten and physically run-down with no "pop". I really don't think the aforementioned "train long/race short" philosophy will work, particularly when he was a very low mileage high school kid. I have no idea and won't try to.
I disagree on one athlete, however: Webb. I think Webb is done, has been done for a while, and either needs to get used to running 3:35-3:40 1500's or specifically focus on the 5k, rejuvenating his career. 3:35 can do some damage on the collegiate level but will get your butt in the "B" race in Europe.
Here is my question: How do we define "best in the world"? World records? Championship medals? Very long career in the top 5 of your event (i.e. Lagat, El G, Geb)? I'm curious to others' opinion on this as well.
