nice to have met you in Boston back in '99. I've known about your dedication to our sport since I first learned there was a Marathon in '77. Run with the angels now and I look forward to running with you there one day.
It was not brain cancer
She talked openly about being diagnosed with breast cancer several years ago. Later I thought she felt she had it beat but apparently not.
RIP dear lady. And what a lady she was.
I raced her in a 5K, in 1984. She won. By a lot. It was well after World Cross Country, and after the LA Olympics, (neither of which I raced) and now I'm still wondering what the heck brought this high caliber Oslo Norwegian to Indiana, USA, in what was, essentially, a local road race (albeit won by Olympian Jim Spivey, but he was graduated from Indiana University).
At that time, I had no idea who she was, but a friend of mine, who finished one place ahead of her, immediately asked for her autograph at the finish line, which she gave.
Running is something that, if it doesn't hurt you, is supposed to make you stronger. 57 is too young.
I met her with PDiddy when I assisted him in the running of the NYC Marathon in 2003. She was there to meet us all before the race with the mayor.
She was and is an eternal superstar in my book.
Therapist with a Grudge
She was a queen of running. She lost her last battle, but her fighting spirit will last forever. RIP.

A legend of the sport.
That's much to young to go. Remember watching her winning marathons when I first got into running and during the first marathon boom, of which she was a huge part
RIP Grete Waitz
May your great memories live forever Grete!
