He doesn't run well from the back. Look at how the NYC half or NYC Marathon worked out for him. He's feeling good up front. It's a great strategy especially with a tail wind.

If there is a huge tailwind and you are in the front of a pack does some of the advantage of the wind get lost? IF there is a headind you clearly want to be in a pack to draft. But if you are in pack in a tailwind do you want to be in the back of the pack?

I completely agree with you. It seems like he always runs better when he puts it on the line from the gun.
Either the chase packs are underestimating the tailwind or the people off the front are overestimating the tailwind. We'll find out around mile 17-18. It's quite possible that those in the chase packs are working HARDER than those off the front.
