What's the course like? Is that a good time given the course and conditions? Top 10 in the fall will be good for him. He won't be top 5.

Solid run by LV. He'll compete for NCAA XC title in the fall
Don't think so. All-American probably, but for the win, still a lot of people in the NCAA much faster than him.

I would guess it's pretty similar to an average college 8k xc course. Brady who was 3rd and Sigl who was 5th were d3 10k champions, both capable of low 24's for cross, so 24:07 and 24:14 for them are similar to what they would run for 8k on grass. So put Verzbicas down for a 23:55 8k at pre-nats next year.
it was HOT in chicago today, sweating just walking around, around the 80s. that is definately not ideal conditions.

He will easily be on top 5 on a good day. People don't realize how hot it was in Chicago today.
It is faster than almost any cross country course.Rene the Cart wrote:

However as was already posted, it was unusually hot.
screw that, everyone knows that there are like 2-3 course on the west coast the run a minute fast. Derrick and the Crew out there are running sub 23s. Oh and pre-nats is flat and fast as well. So it is probably the exact equivalent. Not to mention it was heat stroke weather for LV. it was at least 20+ degrees above the norm today.
I got LV FTW. he'll finally have some competition at the NCAA level. AND his improvements will SHINE SHINE SHINE!!!
bottom line, the Chi is where it is at, just ask LV, Jager, Derrick, Withrow, WORD!
Sure is, anything under 25 would of been a good effort, let alone 24

Right, so this time is roughly equivalent. Try putting on your thinking cap the next time you start typing.
Please dear lord do research before you type, Sigl ran 23:46 last year. This is a VERY fast course. weather was a factor, but people handle that differently. bottom line, it could have been the perfect conditions for Lukas. BOOM ROASTED!
seriously some of you letsrunners must be on crack or something, no way Lukas "contends for a win in the fall" geez.
And Brady ran 24:28; unless he ran an 8k before his 2:29 at the chicago marathon this fall. a 23:46 guy runs 24:14, and a 24:28 guy runs 24:07. i think my estimation that today's 8k approximately equals a random cross country 8k isn't too bad of a conclusion. so you can go roast your testicles in a frying pan.

Umm... some people run better in heat than others, but it makes absolutely no physiological sense for 80 degrees to be "the perfect conditions" for anyone. Somewhere in the 50s is ideal for everyone; some people simply slow down less as it gets hotter.
Yesterday I was standing by the starting line and Lukas' dad?/coach? (I heard people say both) was painfully embarrassing to himself and Lukas. The starter was giving last minute instructions to the runners, so it was very quiet. His dad was shrieking "Go Lukas! Go Lukas! Hang with Simon. Stay with him now!" and rattling the chain link fence. The guy was pacing around like a caged tiger and foaming at the mouth. Casual observers around him who had no idea who is son was were looking at each other quizically and shaking their heads.
It's a race with word "shuffle" in the title and 40,000 runners, most of whom are wearing iPods and fanny packs. I understand Bairu is great competition for Lukas, especially as a high school kid, but come on, it's not the freaking Olympics. I thought the guy was going to have a stroke.
When German and Derrick were freshman: GF ran 23:31 out of the Open Race (mainly just a race with his teammates), and Derrick ran 23:34 in one of the real races.

Baker in 4th was second at pre-nats in 2009 running 23.45. Apprantly he went with Bairu and Verzbicus but was dropped around 5k.
That wasn't Lukas' dad. Just because the guy was yelling for him doesn't automatically make him the kid's father.
Hold the phone, I am thoroughly confused by your statement. Roast my nuts? All I am saying is that these are POST collegiate guys, who at their pinnacle were hitting about 24:00 low. SO looking at that alone I think when a guy who never broke 24 in college, sails under it with a cool 23:46... You can decisively say the course is FAST. Much faster, in fact than one people race in college. anyways, no fear, you can still call it your 8K PR I am not trying to take that away from you. It is just a fast course, that probably doesn't account for the tangents people run.
That wasn't his Dad. I have seen his dad at several races and never heard him say anything. His dad doesn't speak very good English.
