Anyone have the 1200 split?

OK, after watching that race I actually thought German looked pretty good. Just got boxed in and maybe made his move too early, but he looked strong.
This ^ is a post by an astute observer. German looked pretty good. When he was run down by everybody and his brother it was not for lack of speed or that he was out of gas. It was because his shoe was half on/half off.
Read my lips: This was German's best race since his 13:25 AJR. I expect a strong outdoor season.
Some, of course may disagree. But those of you who are spouting about 4:17? 4 freaking 17?!? either don't understand the sport at all or are just trolling. Either way, not interesting.
GERMAN FERNANDEZ IS DONE. I RAN THAT TIME IN HIGH SCHOOL. DONE DONE DONE!
YES, YOU ARE ABSOLUTE DRIVEL. MYSELF, MY GRANDMOTHER, MY HAMSTER AND MY FAVORITE PET TOAD ALL SURPASSED YOUR GREATEST INTELLECTUAL ACHIEVEMENT BEFORE ANY OF US WERE EVEN BORN. YOU ARE DONE DONE DONE! DOUBLE DIP DRIVEL DONE!!!
they were all just jogging much of the race. fernandez came out last, moved up very easily twice, the second time he went to the front strong and lacked speed and was overtaken, and then I'm not sure what happened in the last 100m, but maybe someone did step on his shoe. he wasn't able to hold his position in the pack several times, a tactics issue, but that race says nothing about what time he can run in the mile right now.
No worries. This is championship type of racing. One has to be able to sprint. Yet in another 1500m scenario, one has to be able to bring it home from a long way out or the pace may be hard from the gun. In other words, a 1500m runner has to be ready for anything.
Is now April, when are NCAA finals? Hopefully, German will have the VO2 max and sprint ready when it counts at NCAA's.
For Leo, he's a multiple NCAA Champ and USA Championship podium finisher and he has a very wise coach Cook to guide his training. Leo has to be ready by the USA Championships in late June. I don't know for sure, but Leo is probably at the beginning stages of working on his speed. I would not get too overly concern right now.
This might be the dumbest post I've ever read...
If you haven't noticed, those shoes that people race in have sharp metal spikes in them. People's legs/feet tend to be striking the ground with a lot of force, especially when they're kicking at the end of the race. Regardless of how German tied his shoes, I've pretty sure if the spikes of someone's shoe struck the heel piece of German's, his spike was going to be affected (whether that means coming loose or coming off completely). Have you ever met a coach that has said "oh hey guys I found a great way to tie your shoes so that if someone steps on your heel it won't come off!" Don't be an idiot
This is the third (at least) time that German has had a high profile "wardrobe malfunction." Maybe it's just bad luck, or maybe these instances are noticeable because they seem to directly affect his performance. Having something go wrong with his shoes seems to mentally break him.
Want to beat German? Just get close enough to give him a flat tire early in the race. Guaranteed victory. If you do it at the start, he'll even drop out!
Remember when our great Lord and Savior Chris Solinsky fainted in the 5K on this same Austin Track in 2004ish? Austin is a bitch to run in if you are not from Texas.
He should have taken that Nike contract his senior year in HS :)
4 seconds off in a sit-and-kick race?
....alarm bells are ringing...

People need to chill. There are no alarm bells for this. German was screwed for this race after the first 400. He is a strength runner not a speed guy. This race came down to whoever could run the fastest 400 which obviously was not him. If this was an honest race he would have finished much higher up.
he has never had a problem leading a race before. Ever. Most of his best races and times come from races he has run that way. You have to ask, why isn't he doing that now? Is it because he can't, or is it because someone is telling him not to?
Either way is a coaching failure

german needs to learn to tie his shoes. Its not hard. How would you like to train hard week in and week out, exhausting yourself, giving so much up only to be foiled by a shoe. He needs a different pair or something if the way he likes to tie them won't keep the ones he uses on. I'm sure coach smith could find him something that works that stays on his foot, or maybe teach him a new shoe tying style. It really worries me for future Ok state runners if the coach can't even get his runners to run races without their shoes coming off, thats like distance running 101. Maybe Smith should move down to coaching middle school.
How dare you. I'm a middle school coach and there's no way any of my runners would ever be idiotic enough to have a shoe come off during a race.
Yes, maybe Smith should go down to coaching Pre-Schoolers.
i just watched the race on Flotrack----i am German fan---however that looked terrible---i get it about the shoe in the last 100---but everyone is saying its early, its this, its that-----guys, it was 4:17 pace, not 4:00 pace, so he should look good on the moves he made and he should be able to kick like crazy even though it is is early season---i also realize people are going to say what about Leo, but at this point Leo gets benefit of doubt and German does not---also does anyone else see a parallel between some of Webb's "look of disinterest in competing" last year and German's race--
German did look good. With 400 to go he made a strong move, kicked to the front and was leading the race. With 200 to go he was getting swallowed up a bit by the pack but was still in contention. With 100 to go is when he lost his shoe, and you know what that shit happens. He ran a good race despite the awful pacing, and went for the win when it counted. What more can you ask. Its april, his closing speed will come.

While this may be just a bad guess, has anyone considered that his coach could have told him to run the race as he did? German tends to take the lead and keep the race honest in most of his appearances. But there will certainly be times when it is not a good idea/possible to do that. Perhaps his coach wanted him to work on being more of a kicker to throw some speed in. While we all agree that he doesn't have the leg speed that some other milers/800 guys do, he could have been trying to improve his finishing 200m kick. It could potentially help in situations when leading a race will not benefit him (i.e. if he decides to run/qualifies for the trials)
It's hard to inspire a young kid running like that. Now if they went 49 secs for the last 400m, that could be interesting.
he says he ran with half a shoe for 2.5 laps, not the last 100m.
Bullshit
