What training does everyone think is better for a mid-distance runner?

This link shows Horwell's training program, popularly known as the 5-pace training theory used by Peter Coe to train his son. Then we have Lydiard's method, of which most people here know as a ton of base mileage followed by hill repeats, then heavy anaerobic work with time trials leading up to a race. Lydiard's method was successful for Peter Snell.
So would a runner whose natural talent is speed but not endurance be better off training the 5-pace method or the Lydiard method for the 800m?
