Just curious as what the opinions are out there based on each state and who the good coaches are.
Probably a factor in runner's decisions as to where to go, assumming they want to stay in-state and/or can't afford to go out of state.

First person that comes to mind for me out of New York is Roberto Vives, the director of Track & Field at Albany. I'm not suggesting that he's the best of the best, but he's certainly a coach worth noting.
Indiana:
1a. Chapman at IU (tough standards for walk-ons)
1b. Piane at ND (though not a state school)
Butler has had a decent program although very heavy on the foreigners. Purdue is searching for a new coach and may have someone worth noting (lots of money and potential there). Southern Indiana is a top 20 D2 school, can't remember the coach's name. Indiana State is average D1. Ball St. just dropped the program. Anderson, Depauw, and Wabash have all had moderate success for D3 in the past 5-10 years. Valparaiso U has had a few pretty good individuals(14:15 and 3:48 guys) but nothing really great. Evansville might be the worst program in all of division 1.
South Dakota...
honorable mention should go to BH coach, they have been too good for too long to not have a great leader. Kip did great things at Augie and is at it again at USD. Hounder at SDSU would be in the group but he is stepping down. Spoke to his successor on the phone the other day; still can't believe it.
In a class by himself in more ways than one would be Greeno at USF. keino
California
Al Baeta, American River College (retired)
Washington
Pat Tyson-Mead
Craig Dietz-Mt. Spokane

WASHINGTON
Bill Taylor at Northwest College (women).
Took a horrible team and in the past three to four years are top 10 with a NAIA national xc title in 2002 and runner up in 2004.
rohan himself was a good runner(29:00 10k). they have 2 kiwis and 1 irishman with another kiwi on the way next year along w/ andre silva of long island. the foreignors have thrown down 3:55 1500's, 9:30steeple, and 14:30 5k's, so pretty decent. a recent graduate, dave dewolfe of NJ developed into a 14:40 guy there.
my brother looked into there, that's how i know all this so i figured i'd answer your question.
on topic, i'd have to throw down either the BU, BC, or UMass-Lowell coach for massachusetts since that is where i know.
I think that the best collegiate coach in NYS is Jeff Gruendike. He is excellent!
Which school and coach would you reccomend in Texas? Oh yeah for girls.
For the state of Texas, Hartman at Texas A&M.
I don't know what he does, but Doug Watts at Edinboro has to be a good candidate for best in Pennsylvania. He's been successful for over thirty years. I'd also list Tom Donnelly at Haverford as a good choice.
RIP: D3 All-American Frank Csorba - who ran 13:56 in March - dead
RENATO can you talk about the preparation of Emile Cairess 2:06
