Tell about your worst race ever!!
Tell about your worst race ever!!
Why does everything have to be about race. Does it really matter what color one is?
My senior year of HS at the State Open. I was pumped and ready to grab an all-state award, but things went drastically wrong. I ran half the race at a good clip and then my left leg basically went numb. I somehow continued but maybe like 40 people passed me in the last 300M and I was nearly crawling to the finish. I was carried (well helped) out of the chute by some girl and sat down on the picnic bench. My heart would not stop pounding for 15 minutes. Eventually, I walked over to the woods and puked up bile all over shoe. We finished 7th as a team and missed New Englands.
my senior year of HS, i was running jsut amazing. i was dominating pretty good, and leading up to a great season. but i got hurt 3 weeks before regionals, and thougt i can bounce back, but i finished 12th when i should been in the top 5 cuz thats what our runner place, 5th, but i was always the top runner till i got hurt. state went worse. when i should of been in the top 30, i finished 100+. passin the half mile mark, my whole right side of my back went numb, and i couldnt use my right arm. so i was running awkward and hurt for 2½ miles, jsut seeing my senior xc state meet fall down the drain. it was very bad. i sat alone for a long time just crying. then i watched the awards, and sat in silence and dissappointment the whole way home..
So many to choose from...........hard to decide on which is the worst.
Officially my worst 2 races of all time:
2002 Australian U16 Champs - 800m - Just as I was starting out as a 800m runner, went to nationals with a time of 2:09, came last in straight final running 2:13 with a 69 first lap :'(. It was my first time running at a national championship and its like I just fell asleep as the race was on the last day of the comp and I wasnt focussed. I felt really good when the comp was on, just when it came sunday to race I felt like crap, no excuses just poor.
2004 Australian U18 Champs - 1500m - Same meet and again the curse of feeling good for the first days and feeling like shit on the sunday occured. After running two good 800s the 2 days before (2:01h and 1:56 (59.5first lap) for 2nd in the final). It was time for the 1500. After the 800 I sort of shut off my season and enjoyed the night a little too much. I only ever seem to run good when I really want it and put immense pressure on myself. For this 1500 I had absolutely no pressure and no desire. As national 1500s tend to be, it was quite a tactical race. The first lap went out in only about 67s as all the sub 4min runners were cruising around ready to increase at any time. I however felt quite poof and just could not pick it up, felt really flat and ran 4:23 for dead last (ran PR of 4:07 2 weeks earlier).
In both of these races, running around the track in dead last and not being able to pick it up, have to be the 2 most embarassing moments of my whole life. Its just as though everyone is watching you thinking "get off the track, your a disgrace"
I was running my 1st varsity race as a sophomre in HS. Towards the last mile, I was starting to feel sick to my stomach and then I felt like I had to crap....I tried so hard to hold it in the last 3/4 mile and then 25 meters before the finish it all came spilling down my legs and my coahc thought someone threw up on me. As I came in to the finish I was balling because I felt so embarrased and people just thought I was tired. When my coahc first saw me after the race he had thought someone threw up on me and I said yep.
Frist time at state in highschool cross country.
Was having a great season, frist year out for the sport and was looking to be in the top 15 or so. Went out with the lead pack, and charged though the frist mile hard. Was right in the front! Was a windy cold day, and the befor I knew it I started to slow as the wind was burning my body. And I went out much to fast for my body.
Ended fighting my way the rest of the race, and went from frist at the frist mile splint to 53/120 at the end of the race. I think the splits where something like for 4:37 over hills 5:10 9:37. Last mile was ugly!
I won a half marathon in the San Francisco Bay area in the early 90s, easily crushing the field. That was good I guess, but then the losers all started crying that they didn't win. One guy cried so hard he puked. That made it the worst ever.
Flagpole Willy is about improving himself but only as long as no one else's self esteem gets trampled on. Flagpole Willy was sad that day.
yall ready for this? highschool 800m pr of 1:53. quarter in 49.1. wanted to be a miler but only ran 4:28 in highschool. got a scholarship to a local university in the southland confrence. ran like shit at confrence durin xc. made the mile finals indoors with a pr of 4:21 in the prelims. ran 4:36 in the finals and nearly got lapped (thats not the worst of it). then came outdoors, 4:03 pr durin the season for 1500. 1:52 800 pr run about a month before confrence. at outdoor confrence i ran a 4:24 1500 gettin last by a whole lot and completely embarrassing myself. i lost my scholarship.
this year i got 3rd at confrence indoors (4:13) and have run 3:52 twice outdoors, so i'm doin a wee bit better than before. and i'm gettin the damn scholarship back.
