The weather was quite weird up here today. 44 degrees F at 8:30AM and 84F at its' warmest. Lots of hurtin' puppies, some poor people are STILL finishing as I post this (AFTER 6PM Eastern Time). Ouch city. Odd wind too, very gusty (20MPH + at times) and swirling.
Ndereba was a mess at the finish and could someone explain WHY it took the officials so long to get some medical people to her side? She was totally and utterly wasted...a major guts effort today, my hat's off to her, but kiss her off for Athens in my mind. I doubt she has sufficient recovery time.
I've been watching this race since I was a toddler and have been a volunteer for almost 20 years. Today I beheld the weirdest (and most ominous) site ever at Boston: a black van with dark tint windows containing a fully-uniformed, flak jacketed & armed SWAT or commando team, one of whom was seen holding an honest-to-God bazooka leading the elite women's field.
