People on this site are way too obsessed with age. Training age matters more than actual age. A might be older than B and slower than B but B has been training longer than A....get it? In the end, who really cares. There is no age division in college or world championship races or olympics.
seconded...the difference between being 18 and 19 as a college freshman is...nonexistent
its all in the physical development of the kid/young adult... AND both derrek and GF where man-childs... both looked old as hell for their age. bottom line, age is only an indicator, not a deciding factor, and that the rate one develops is entirely unique to each individual.................. BOOM thread over
No, Derrick was not a man-child. I went to high school with him (NO, I'm not lying) and he looked pretty normal to me for a High School Senior. He was basically a pipsqueek until his junior year.
Who cares? Alan Webb is running an 800 and everything else is irrelevant.[quote]NVHS wrote:

That is incredibly ignorant. Have you even seen pics/videos of these two in high school?
To reduce your ignorance a bit, spend a moment and watch German's senior year state championship XC race here:
http://www.dyestatcal.com/image/7xc/November/24%20State/FinVid/CA-d4b.wmvI stand by what I said, they are man children... both of them... CD although devilishly handsome, has a hairline that is charging backward, and GF well he just looks old
I am unpersuaded by your video good sir
Given that there are like seven Stanford guys entered in that race, I suspect one may be a rabbit and the rest or all will just try and knock out a time that will have them locked in for regionals for the event. Done. I would be surprised to see something faster than 28:40-28:50 out of Derrick and most of the Stanford crew will probably be within 20-30 seconds of that.
28:33... Yes I know he is capable of a lot LOT faster.
fiddle sticks... he'll run 29:20 and you'll like it
Luke Cragg to go sub 28.40
Agreed with pack running.
Possible one will rabbit, my guess being Elliott.
If not, it may look like the xc season with Heath, Derrik and Riley up front leading the way.
Yes, looking for a regionals qualify, but I also suspect a USATF qualifier for this June's champs. Is that time a 28:40? That would seem like a reasonable time to shoot for.
Stan Ford Jr.
No way! Yes, I agree they have a look of maturity. But that has come as a fruit of their insane devoted training and lifestyles. This is on top of their nonetheless youthful fragile frames. For example, in the press conference after NCAA XC 2009, there's a picture of Fernandez and Derrick together, and they have an air of extreme maturity, manliness on their cheekbones and jaws... BUT, indeed, any careful examination of their high school track and xc performances, as well as the occasional illnesses and injuries they have suffered, reveals their vulnerability, fragility and youth. That's part of the distance running lifestyle and part of what makes them amazin.
I'm predicting a 7 way tie.
Derrick will say he could have run a lot faster, but wanted to help out his team.
