and get over it. Everyone else has to deal with the same thing. Americans are too ready to make up excuses.

if you signed up for boston to pr, you're screwed. just like many races, unless your vying for the win you're pretty much racing the clock. if you've trained for 6 months to run fast at boston, you're gonna have a whole lotta trouble doing it in this weather. people don't run boston to get 137th place and the acclaim and adulation which comes with that. they're running to pr, or at least pr the course. the "marathon completionists" whom you seem to have directed this thread towards don't make Boston. but i'm sure you know that already because you're at home.
If I were in Boston, I'd bag the damn rac.e Honestly. I'm no quitter, but who knows what long-term effect racing in that crap after training in 40 degree temperature the last four months would have.
I couldn't agree more. I would bag the race and look for another one in a few weeks. They are saying 85+ by 2-3pm today.
I agree with you Bum. This person is obviously too slow to be there themselves. And I also agree with the other posts, if you wanted a PR its probably not going to happen. Months of training gone to shit over some flukey weather. Thats a real bummer, I feel bad for everyone running

Look who's talking shit-for-brains.
For the record, I am not a marathoner and therefore will not be in attendance at Boston.
Who care about Boston anymore. Used to be a great race....now it is just a parade that generates revenue. I mean, its full of slow, washed up wannabes, and a few genetically freak Kenyans. The standards have been made so easy they may as well just open it up to verybody.
then quit pretending you know anything about the marathon. coming from someone who has not trained for or raced a marathon, you're "advice" is completely useless.
First of all, any idiot knows you don't use boston to PR. You use Chicago. Second of all, the same bitching is applicable to any race, it's just contagious to Americans.
They say "oh man, I coulda beatn him that day but it was too...hot"...guess what genius, it was the same temp for the guy who whooped you as well.
Instead of whining, know in advance that there is always a probability it may be hot OR cold. This is the east, things change like that. One day 45, next day 85. Use it to your advantage.
For the record, I am not gutless. I ahve trained in 98 degree weather in the middle of the afternoon before. I've also trained in sub 10 degree temps. I have more enchiladas than most of you.
Malmo and I have joked about this before but American youth will run fast times when marathons are held in underground tunnels that are free of wind, sun, and other troublesome elements, saturated with higher concentrations of oxygen, and a constant 55 degress.
Maybe the Swiss will let us borrow the particle acceleration tunnels at CERN for our next Oly Trials?
I am taking a firm stand. No more running for me until science and USATF build a weather control machine and medical science perfects a lightweight portable IV pump that can dispense Gatorade and Endurox. I did see a TV ad for a portable oxygen system for people with heart and lung problems, maybe I can utilize that? Only then will running be worth the effort.
The challenge is to create no challenges. I'll get to work on the underground marathon right away. I think that I'll call it the "Candyass Classic".
Think about this for a moment young tough guys, while you would avoid the day for it's lack of PR friendliness, some chubby housewife is going to suffer for five plus hours in that heat today to give some kids a chance to beat leukemia. She'll suck it up and take the pain that you "badasses" won't. That makes her more a winner than the wannabe elites that continually grouse about bad weather, hills, and every other excuse under the hot scorching sun. In fact, she's closer to Salazar and Beardsley in stature than many of you will ever be.
I would consider bagging the race if a PR was my only goal. If placing high was a goal than it doesn't matter as much. It is true that most marathoners are out there for a PR, not to place... even good ones. Only the best care about place in the marathon. That is just some bad luck but could be a character builder for people that suck it up and race hard.
If you are using Boston to PR, then you haven't run enough marathons yet. It is not a PR course anyway.
Amen Portland! It's unfortunate that PR's are all that's important these days - even for many (most?) of the elites. Running London over Boston is something I just can't understand (assuming you have a choice between the 2).

I didn't say that I know anything and everything about the marathon. I pointed out the fact that there was a hypocritical statement in Bum's remarks. Exactly what advice did I dish out? It doesn't take a seasoned marathon veteran to figure that one out, genius.
Nothing inconsistent with my statement - ass wipenheisser.
I am qualified for Boston - hurt this year pal. Ran last year, completely died the last 4 miles (pretty hot lost year, but not as hot as this year) and came in about 500th overall. Shit time, but at least I toed it up.
Wow, do you belong to Mensa?
Yep. Maybe you should run along to class now boy....
