Galen Rupp running for Oregon Project?!

Guess he doesnt care about eligability anymore...

This must be his decision, and also as to his college decision. Looks as if he is not going to be running for any college team...

maybe he entered under his club team name.

i doubt he will run for a college, but technically NOP is his club. unless he has actually signed a contract with NOP or recieves appearance money or prize money, his eligibility is still fine for HS and NCAA.

this was just in my state, but we couldn't compete for clubs during hs seasons. if we did, we were ineligible for the rest of the season. maybe the rules are different in oregon.

his designation could of course be changed (or merely a mistake). this is just an entry list. i've seen (and been the victim of) all sorts of interesting affiliations on entry and result lists.

Rupp is training with the Oregon Project. Is it fair? Probably not. I just think it's Ironic that Rupp and kiptoo both have professional-type coaches (Salazar and Hellybeck) and they still don't win Footlocker. Josh McDougal embarrassed Rupp at New Balance indoors, and McDougal is home-schooled!

I think it's all in the coach or environment, but a lot of it is. For christ's sake, it's running, how much can you possibly cheat without EPO?

the question is not whether he trains with these people, the question is whether he will still be eligible for high school races if he is indeed competing attached to a club. we all know he trains with these guys and i don't think anyone really cares whether it's fair or not.

I find it incredibly humorous that you bring up Alberto and Eddy and then go on to say the only real way to cheat is drugs.

What is all this fuss about Rupp. Hell, he is not even the best high school runner in the U.S.

Of course it's fair. Anything that is short of breaking the rules is fair. Is it fair that rich kids get to go to Ivy League schools etc. etc. etc. Get over it and deal with the real world.

Doesnt Rupp attend a catholic school of some sort? I know at least in my state the rules for private/catholic schools are different from public.

Rupp does attend a Catholic school, but the rules are no different in regards to club running. He is not giving up his high school eligibility. While Salazar may be viewed as more of a professional coach, he is actually the distance coach at Central Catholic. It isn't like he is Rupp's exclusive coach and all the other kids are trained by someone else. Last I heard they were still deciding whether to run Galen at the Centennial meet or the Oregon Invite next weekend.

It's more likely that it's just a clerical error.

I'd bet that Alberto, as coach of both the Oregon Distance Project, AND Central Catholic HS, submitted the entries and that whoever compiled the start lists just lumped all of them together as coming from one "team".

A friend of mine is running and her name was submitted in the entries by a local college coach -- and she is listed as competing for that college & she's not enrolled there.

The local paper today talks about Galen's choices for races this weekend and makes it clear that his planning on getting a state high school title for Central Catholic.
