AR is his for the taking.
AR is his for the taking.
Was the fall in the 2nd 5k? Agreed, AR on the way at some point.
wow. what a run
if they hadn't walked for the first 2 miles...great great race from Rupp - he is an animal. Guy falls down hard, wears a mask, at a distance 2x longer than he's ever run - he's the man now.
as silly as he may look with some of his things (nose strips, rupp certified, and now the mask) he is a BAD ASS!
Galen 'The Gimp' Rupp
I want to root for Rupp and will root for Rupp (I'm an American homer), but stupid sh*t like the mask makes it difficult!
Those are actually ridiculous splits. Does anyone have Hall's 5k splits for his AR run in Houston? I'd like to compare them.
I wonder, if run evenly, what kind of time Rupp could have possibly produced on the day.
I gotta say, I am thoroughly impressed by this run.

There was a ridiculous tail wind.
Rupp's last 10k was 27:57. He could clearly go a minute faster on an outdoor track. Solinsky's record is going down.

You have to use the method my GF uses for Lady Gaga. My GF loves her music but can't stand to look at her, even for a second. My GF listens to the music and ignores the fashion disaster that is Lady Gaga.
You have to learn how to tune Rupp's fashion disaster looks out. It's only way to save your mental sanity.

Rupp is definitely a beast and in the current climate I would say that all our distance records are currently under threat.
FWIW, according to McMillian 1:00:27 is worth a 27:10, which is about Rupp's PR and certainly within striking distance.
IMO, the biggest threat to Solinksy's record is a healthy Ritz. 12.56 and 59:59.99 for the 1/2 equals about 26:55 or better on any equivalency table.

He won't have a tailwind on the track. It would be in his face half the time.
I read that he was wearing it for his asthma.

"I received word today that Galen Rupp was unable to complete the mile race he entered at the Boise State Invitational.
Rupp suffered an asthma attack and was unable to finish. A similar thing happened to him about a year ago in Albuequerque, N.M."

A tailwind is nice, yes, but look at those splits again. Even pacing will help him more than a lack of tailwind will hurt.

So will he have to wear two masks?

You never want to go even. A better split for 57:30 would have been 29:00/28:30.
The reason he fell was because he was running very easy and when he looked around, sped up a little. You could tell the pace was real easy for him at that point.
I have to say Rupp has entered my red flag area. I was trying to give him the benefit of the doubt when working with Salazar but its hard to believe he is clean after splitting 27:57 for his last 10K of a half marathon in NYC.

WTF???
For the last 7 miles he had a strong tailwind at his back. 4.5 mps (10 miles per hour). Additionally from 6-11 miles there was a 100' drop in elevation.
No need for conspiracies.
