This happened to Jenny (Barringer) Simpson at NCAA Outdoor a few years back and she must have passed 6-7 girls after.
I don't think he intentionally popped his shoe off, but I'm surprised he didn't just put it back on....4:33 first mile is hardly a pace he couldn't catch up to.
