It's $5.39/gallon in Orlando.

Typical Amerifat, OP is not the real Amerifat, I just registered so this thread can be deleted.
I think it's higher than $4/gallon. >$4.30
I think it will keep people from driving as much. It seems each time we pass through a dollar threshold, $2, $3, $4, there is a BIG push to try to be more efficient to save money. Then gas prices back off a bit, old habits come back and we don't even blink an eye when we go through the same threshhold a second time. I didn't hear to many complaints when gas went past $3 this time around.
Five dollar gas it going to put a hurtin' on a lot of people.
Yes, rising gas prices will force people to stop driving as much. However, they won't accept their reduced standard of living by rationalizing that driving less is good for the environment. Most people will not give the slightest shit about the slightest shit about the environement once gas prices really start eating into their budgets. Instead, you can expect a strong public revolt against environementalism, with the end result being the exact opposite of what the liberals want.
NO. Americans are fed up with 2 hour commutes of up to 50 miles or more each way. Many of those commuters may not care about the environment but they will be allies on this matter. The vast majority of Americans are sick and tired of using so much gas in one way or another.

People will try and drive less but most still have to drive a certain amount. What will happen is they will have less money to spend on other items that aren't as necessary. That will lead us back to a recession.

You shouldn't appoint yourself to speak for "most Americans." In doing so, you risk the embarrasing discovery that your views only represent the small number of people who are both A) interested in politics and B) liberals.
You shouldn't have the word "Rational" in your name.
Human nature dictates that people are going to be mad as hell when they see their standard of living fall due to skyrocketing gas prices. Only the most philosophically malindoctrinated individuals will accept it as a good thing.

If anyone takes 2 hours to commute 50 miles in a car, they're retarded. Buy a bike, get two birds stoned at once.
The age of Obama
he meant two hours commute/day, dumbass... 50m there - 50m back
there will be some sort of bailout that will bring down the gas prices back down to $2.50 and people who were against universal healthcare will be happy since it benefits them.
Give me health or Give me oil!!
So in other words, you are bankrupt of any means to refute what I said.
