Sometimes the topics get dull, but riding you never does. Anyway you're free for a while now. I have to run off to class. Sophomoric Physics. Maybe we'll learn about the "theory" of gravity. Have a nice day.
like I said sophomoric. HA. jesus.
Personally, I prefer to acknowledge both that he broke a rule AND that Mormonism is f***ing stupid. No need to choose one side or the other.
A huge question that I am surprised no one has asked yet, how the hell did anyone find out about this kids sex life? If it's in the links provided I don't read those, reading is for queers.
Looks like this thread fell apart quickly.
He probably admitted it, my buddy who played at BYU left the team for the same reason years ago. He knew the code, broke the code and admitted it and paid the price. He may be back next year if he handles everything right. BTW, if you think BYU players or fans will hate on the kid you are wrong. They will love and support him more then ever.
Yes, he admitted it. He sounds like a pretty good kid.
I think they found out from him blasting "I just had sex" non-stop afterwards.
Go Cougars - you make good points - what matters most is that people are happy and productive - and if Mormonism does it for them, I agree with your perspective - that is a good thing.
Having said this, religion isn't my cup of tea - and certainly the Mormon faith isn't either. As long as Mormons politely disengage when I calmly state I am not interested when selling their point of view, I respect the right for them to hold their views. BYU and Mormons concern me in the same way that Orthodox Jews do - I question whether they are truly adapting in a healthy way to a modern world, but given that I hold no special amount of wisdom, and I concede that what works for them, is, well, a good thing.
The Mormon faith, like all faiths, has some fairly ugly parts of its history, whether referring to Joseph Smith's sexual antics and fraudulent behavior or the Mountain Meadows massacre. The Mormons would be better off to address these issues openly and with a critical historical eye. Again, that is an inquiry they themselves must lead.
By the way, I am sure your leaving Doug Padilla off your list was an unintentional omission. A true champion in every sense of the word.
This pretty much sums up my sentiments on the issue.
But at the same time, who really knows what moral system one wants to live by for the next 8 years when one is 17? Kind of hard to say, sorry, I know your basic human survival instinct has kicked in, but you're stuck for maybe 5 more years in our cult.
Freedom to choose and "free to do whatever they want" are two completely different things. The Mormon church is like any organization. There are standards that are encouraged to be upheld. When these standards aren't upheld, there are consequences. Just like our country has laws and when the laws are not followed, there are consequences. I can guarantee that Mr. Davies won't be looked down on or be told he is going to hell. Another huge part of the Mormon religion is forgiveness and repentance. They do not automatically condemn someone who makes a mistake.
Just because Mormons choose to live virtuously I don't see why that should make them the target to ridicule. You may not agree with the church, that's just fine. But it's almost as if people are on the hunt to find fault in the Mormon church.
For what purpose? What was the intend of everyone's criticizes and ridicule on this thread?
I'm very interested to know why people care so much (usually in a negative way) about Mormons.
You don't have exactly have to "hunt" to find fault with the Mormon church. In one sense, all religions are equally silly. But I think extra critique to the Mormon church is sign of a healthy society that sees issues in degrees. Identifying Mormonism as the most ludicrous mainstream religion is common sense; sorry if that's painful to hear.
Only if they are married.

Not sure, but haven't unbiased statistics shown that Mormons divorce rate is just about the same as the rest of America?
Whether you agree with the code of conduct or not, as mentioned several times, the students know what they're getting into. You have to give credit to BYU for following through and enforcing their policies. I'm sure most schools have a no underage drinking policy, but how many of them would throw out their star athlete if they were caught violating it.
BTW. I'm not Mormon, the only God I believe in is the human spirit.
so does every student with a significant other at byu get questioned about what they are doing in their private time?
who at byu reported this to school officials?
didnt byu see this was going to blow up into a national story and handle it another way?
is jimmer scared of byu coming down on him also if he spoke up publicly and tried to get davis back onto the team?
if i was a player on that team, i dont think i would want to ever play another game in their uniform.
Pre-marital sex does not have any more health risks than sex when married. Seriously. The health risks would come from things like promiscuous sex or unprotected sex.
