IF Rupp runs the NYC half, that would seem to fit with Salazar's approach of having his athletes step up in distance at the end of a training phase, much like when Kara debuted at the marathon less than 3 months after the Beijing Olympics.

If he was, he would be on the way to Oz to run with the big dogs.
Who are you to tell him where to run?

like what do u think ryan hall thinks about galen rupp?
do u think he'll fear racing him or will he think the kids only good at shorter events. (the latter would be a dumb thought)
i don't think they've ever raced each other but if so it was on the track and i'm sure rupp beat him pretty bad
The only time I can recall them racing is at 2007 USATF outdoors, the summer after the 59:43:
1 Abdi Abdirahman Nike 28:13.51
2 Galen Rupp Oregon 28:23.31
3 Dathan Ritzenhein Nike 28:31.88
4 Alan Culpepper Nike 28:34.01
5 Jorge Torres Reebok 28:36.85
6 Jason Hartmann Boulder Perf 28:46.76
7 Ryan Hall Asics 28:51.77
8 Ryan Shay Saucony 28:54.34
9 Tim Nelson unattached 28:55.85
10 Daniel Browne unattached 29:02.98

Rupp is a racer, Hall is a time-trialer - I'll take the racer almost every time.

lets see so far this year galen rupp has raced.
1. isaiah koech 12:53 for indoor 5k
2. eliud kipchoge 12:46 personal best for 5k.
3. paul koech 7:56 for the steeple.
4. bernard lagat, you know his credentials.
who are these big dogs in OZ that are better than the 4 rupp has already ran against? solinsky? teg? i dont think so.
I think Rupp will dominate.
How many times do you guys have to learn never to underestimate Meb. This guy is a silent killer. My money is on Meb.

^^^ It really does seem weird that folks here overlook Meb. His medals in big time marathons/half marathons place him ahead of everyone else but people act like Hall (and to a lesser extent Ritz) is America's only real contender.
I think Meb runs 60 and change or better for this half. This is the first time he has raced a half marathon without making it a glorified training run for the full marathon. I wouldn't be surprised if he went for the half American Record now that he isn't doing a spring Marathon.
YES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! FINALLY

hall spanked rupp in the 5000 at pac-10's and regionals in 2005...

Yet when Jim Ryun wheezes his way to a 4:17 mile due to hay fever, malmo is quick to defend Ryun. Seems contradictory to me.
When did I mock Rupp for having allergies? Besides, as far as I'm aware he has mild allergies, not a debilitating reaction that Ryun had.
So, how do you differentiate mild allergies from a "debilitating reaction"? How do you categorize those things and how is that relevant to the reality of the situation? Do you even know? My guess is you don't.

coach d, you make an excellent point. your consistent trashing of rupp has convinced me that my lasting impression of rupp as a tough and talented competitor is mistaken. he is, as you helpfully continue to point out, an inconsistent chicken-sh*t pussy with no talent, work ethic, or any other redeemable qualities. in fact, true american fans of distance running have no business cheering for him at all, because he is, as your clear logic demonstrates, a cancer to the sport. thank you for your insightful analysis and helpful contribution to the board. there aren't enough posters like you at letsrun.
BAM! nice

your right that senior beat the freshman after he ran the 10K - great job, also he only needed to score a point for them to win the team title and he did.
Imma be pissed If Rupp races the 'thon in London
59:59.02
since the HM is closer to the 10k than the marathon, I think Rupp will run a very fast time - faster than Hall
Rupp's either running the Trials for the Olympic berth or ING NYC for the bucks.
The half-marathon should be developed as a World Cup event. It would extend careers and create a deeper pool of caliber runners.
NYRR: "Rupp joins a field that also includes Abdi Abdirahman, Ryan Hall, Meb Keflezighi, Jason Lehmkuhle, and Patrick Smyth."
As to the course (I did it in 2010), the Park is the Park but you get one extra downhill (Cat Hill) because you do 1.25 laps. Seemed it was slightly down to 42nd Street, flat to the Westside, and then very flat or slightly down for the final 3+ miles. 2010 had a nice tailwind. A headwind would be tough (although a sidewind probably more likely). If there were a headwind, though, I'd expect the buildings would buffer it. Once you turn south on West Street, you put it in auto-pilot, make a commitment in pace, and try to hold speed and form to the finish. The surface is a bit hard, but while I heard others complaining about their experiences, it didn't bother me.
