Wow... where to start. Probably the URL "iceagenow" should be enough. Picture shows the australian plate and the eurasian plate, but that doesn't go anywhere New Zealand. Should be the australian plate and the pacific plate.

The Pacific Plate is subducting under the Indo-Australian Plate north and east of New Zealand, but the direction of subduction reverses in the south of the Alpine Fault where the Indo-Australian Plate starts subducting under the Pacific Plate.
The subduction zones can be seen to the northeast and southwest - not sure how they link this to Christchurch.
