He can't match Lagat's explosiveness on an indoor track. Rupp's only chance is if he can put a surprise move, like a 27-28 with 800 to go and be able to revover enough to finish just fast enough to hold him off. In a race that goes honest enough -7:48 to 7:50.

let me enlighten you: at altitude, i doubt rupp could run much faster than 3:43 for 1500 esp since his pr is 3:39.
then what u expect him to run another 1500 at a decent clip? if he ran 4:00 for the second 1500 he'd be right on his pr for 3k (7:42.40)
simple put.. u can't ask him to do something he's not capable of. going hard with a k to go would be the best shot
tactical race.. they come through 2k in 5:20-30ish, rupp passes up lagat and drops a good 28 then click off 30s the last 4 laps hopefully splitting around 2;30 last k and winning in around 8:00. thats his ONLY chance to beat lagat. and it most likely still won't work because this IS lagats event.

Rupp wasn't even entered in this race until Christchurch fell through. Beating Lagat here is probably not a high priority for him.
My guess is that Salazar will structure a relatively high-volume workout around the 3K - to mimic the training effect of a the 10K that was originally planned for this weekend - and that Rupp may well go into the race with a hard interval or two already in his legs.
Even if that's the case, he'll probably finish no worse than second.

altitude in albuq. is almost 6,000 ft.. it makes a big difference

Tegenkamp is the best American distance runner. Besides Webb, Teg has come the closest to beating him at US champs in '06 and '07. Teg is better than Ritz and Solinsky and he will come back this year. He's a better racer than Ritz and quicker in a kick vs. Sol.
