Disappointing, I guess.
Ritz has got to be one of the most frail, sickly people ever. If he had been born before modern medicine he would have died before he was 5.

Getting sick a lot with young children in the house is VERY common. I was constantly sick the first 3 years after we had our first. When our second eventually went to preschool at age 4, I had another big bunch of colds that finally stopped by the time he was in kindergarten.
are we absolutely sure he doesn't have the AIDS, it would explain a lot.
What an a-hole. Blames his problems on his kids. Used to be a Ritz fan...no more.

Right, but isn't that when they go to daycare or school. Ritz is saying he starting getting sick after his son was born. His son is 7 months old and is at home I believe. That doesn't seem like the prime time to catch illnesses from your child.
SOUNDS LIKE A WHINEY OVER HYPES YANKEE, CAN'T GET HIS S HIT TOGETHER SO BLAMES HIS KIDS ON HIS FAILURES. HE DOES KNOW HE CAN STILL GO OUT FOR A RUN WITH A RUNNY NOSE DOESN'T HE?
I think it's time to give up on Ritz. He clearly isn't cut out for the marathon. I know he said he's moving back down but how that'll play out, who knows. He can't string together more than 1 or 2 weeks without getting injured.
He used to seem like a very gutsy runner back in high school. Those 2 footlocker wins were outstanding.
Not long ago he ran 12:56, hopefully he can get back there. I'm sure that sometime in the next few years he WILL come into very good shape, but I doubt that it'll be anything better than what we've seen before.
I wish him all the best.
I respect Ritz and no one can deny his talent, but Ritz comes across as the biggest pussy in the sport of running.
I was always had pretty neutral feelings on Ritz, but this freakin does it. If Only a little cold was the worst that the Africans had to fight off. Ritz has access to clean water, modern medicine, pinnacle of nutrition, science, endless amounts of support, yet is sidelined by a freaking cold. I understand its true and is impacting his running, but for this to be shared, as an excuse no less, shows how weak he really is. I find myself incredibly annoyed that he ran 12:56 because it seems it will be an outlier in his career that will cement his name as a running legend when clearly he is one of the weakest runners ever.
Done.
Oh yeah, and now every time he has ever collapsed after a race (Which was almost every race) is suspect in mind to his weakness and not his "Giving it my all".
I know that Competitor.com probably tells Ritz and their other bloggers it's time to turn out a new one but man, why not wait until you have something worth sharing?
If your immune system is strong, then you won't be affected by sick people around you.
The two most important components to a strong immune system are making sure you get sufficient sleep and you are not overly stressed.
These should be things that Ritz can control in his life.
I think Geb complained of the same thing.

You are an idiot.... Anyone that has watched him run or has run with him/against him will tell you he has the biggest nut sack in the business. His pain tolerance is second to none, which may explain why he does get injured a lot because of his high pain tolerance.
Really, guys? It's absolutely ridiculous how many people are coming on here and criticizing Ritz for getting sick. He obviously wants to succeed at running and does everything within his power to stay healthy- it's not like it's his fault if he catches a freaking cold.
See, this is the kind of BS I'm beginning to hate. So, from watching him run you can tell he is hurting more than anyone else in the "Business"? What test has been used to rate his pain tolerance compared to others? So if you run against him, you now have insight that he is hurting MORE than you?
Just because hes fast doesn't mean he hurts more than average joe.
Just because he grimaces, talks about running hard and collapses at the end of races does NOT mean is tougher, stronger or going through more pain.
And....wait for it.....he uses the classic line all parents use after they have moaned and groaned about the latest crap their kids have dished out..."the kids are worth it."
Really? How worth it when Nike decides they're all done supporting the excuses, injuries, and four months of sickness each year?
Did I read the same post as you people? If anyone sounds like they're whining, it's the lot of you. After looking at Ritz's post, it sounds like all he wanted to give us was a humorous update into his life as a parent. Not interested, well then... don't read it! If you are, take it for what it is: a quick snapshot of Ritz the parent, not Ritz the runner.
When the kid goes away and brings stuff back, that can be another thing that brings it on, but even right away you are susceptible. Having a baby in the house interferes with your sleeping, even if you have a spouse who takes care of everything in the middle of the night. Also, while it's awesome to have kids, it's very stressful early on. The kids play on the floor, bringing stuff from down there up to you when you pick them up and play with them on the floor, etc.I was sick as a dog the very first day we brought our first child home from the hospital, and I had a hellish couple of years. This is VERY common.
