yes it is always possible, look what happened to Ebuya (The worlds cross country champion DNF for the trials and was not chosen for this years' cross country championship) But I believe that Rupp is understrained (Salazar and his team knows this0 but this year, they want to take a different approach which is race (continuously) and get himself in top shape.
do you remember running in HS/college? well think about how HS runners peak 3 times a year. granted an elite runner that is focusing and preparing for WCs should strictly focus on preparing for August, it doesnt hurt that many elites are running numerous races this time of the year. and i realize that elite runners like rupp are not in HS/college mode, but for rupp he hasnt been out of the collegiate system for all that long. many elites will probably hide for a few months (until May/June) where there training will pick up again. most of this stuff is to prevent stale legs/break up the monotony of running. many of these runners have been training since october/november. they deserve to have some time to "benchmark" themselves and see how their training is going. again, most of these guys will finish up racing by march. develop more aerobically until late April/mid May and slowly pick it up again.
Salazar has no patients. Both as a runner and as a coach.

Patients? Really?
And that's not even the least intelligent thing about your post
Early March is exactly what he is trying to peak for. Then he will go, rebuild his base, and get ready for the world championships. He is having 2 seasons instead of 1 like pros usually have.
First of all, do you have a link? Can't find it on the homepage. Its not that I doubt you because I have seen this elsewhere but I can't find any details.
Secondly, the answer is no. As the previous poster noted, he is training for two distinct parts of the season. Furthermore, the question is a little on the cynical side is it not? You think the AR in the 10K is the absolute peak of what Rupp can achieve? Its high up there but its not that high.
I'm not sure what you are expect in the way of a link, but on the front page it says:
Galen Rupp & Mo Farah Set National 5k Records! (13:11.44 and 13:10.60) The two Alberto Salazar-coached athletes put on a brave battle, with Farah coming out on top on the last lap, as Rupp regained his American record from Bernard Lagat by .06. Rupp and Farah will be training together through 2012 and their partnership is off to a strong start. Rupp is scheduled to go for the American 10k record next week in New Zealand.
Here is the list of confirmed athletes for the ITM meet in New Zealand on the 26th Feb, 2011.
http://internationaltrackmeet.co.nz/ITM/athletes/hall-of-fame-2Splitting the year into two seasons makes more sense for Rupp. By running this race in February, he is arguably in a much better position that the people who try to run fast at Stanford in early May.
i look at the confirmed start list on just now february 21st and since they are 1 day ahead it is february 22nd there, so with 4 days before the race there are only 2 people entered in the 10k, rupp and a runner with a 10k best of 30:25, so apperently like when menjo ran the worlds best time in the 10k in 26:56 with 2nd place 3-4 minutes behind, apparently rupp is going to either run a very fast totally solo time, or he is in the race for a glorified appearance and he is on de-facto vacation.
kenya and ethiopia had their trials in xc this weekend and i am sure there are dozens who did not make the team who are in excellent shape and can give rupp competition, oh well i guess we have to wait for march 3rd in new zealand for a real race, lagat, solinsky, teg, nelson, bumbalaugh etc. maybe rupp can stick around a week and jump into that race.
who knows though there is still time for a few runners that can give rupp a race to enter.
maybe no one else can enter it says final fields at the top of the page.

The page states: 17th Feb – Final fields and timings below.
So that was the field as of a few days ago. Even though it says "final", not sure if that really prevents anyone else from entering, but I expect at least there could be a rabbit for a 2-3 events, the women's mile, the men's 1500m and 10,000m - might have to wait and see.
Maybe, I don't think he's peaked yet.
As long as he has a mini break in spring he'll be ok

Has Rupp or Salazar actually said they're going after the the 10k AR? The article where Rupp's participation was originally mentioned talked about the NZ soil record probably going down, but if Salazar said something about the AR (and he's usually not shy about making predictions) I haven't seen it. In any case, if a record attempt is in the works, I'd expect Nike to bring in 2 or 3 hired pacers.
If the race is set up for him and the conditions ideal, it should be interesting. He's seven seconds faster indoors over 5000 than he was at this time last year, and his 27:10 from Stanford would've been faster but for the "x" factor in Solinksy and the surge/chase that probably cost Rupp maybe five seconds.
Maybe this race means nothing or won't even happen, but I can't understand why Rupp would be flying to New Zealand on the heels of an indoor AR over 5000 if Salazar didn't have something up his sleeve. 13:30 pace for the first 5k should feel comfortable to Rupp, so it's a matter of how fast he can bring it home. If he can go sub-27:00 (if, in fact, that is the goal), he should have supreme confidence going into the WC in August. Personally, I wish one of these guys would've taken a crack at the world cross country championships.
ever read?
Salazar has specifically said Rupp's doing two distinct seasons. Gotta figure that 10k is the end of his "indoor" season and then he'll go back to the drawing board for June/July/August. Plenty of time.
maybe solinsky will rabbit Rupp to the 10k wr, returning the favor. it would be much nicer if solinsky raced him, and teg, of course.
I am disgusted with the amount of leeching people do off Rupp… I guarantee that he would run an easy sub 27 if the rest of the country wasn’t cowardly

Hmmmmmmm wrote: Patients? Really?[/quote]
A coach often has to deal with mentality. Their runners can be consider their patients.
Salazar has several patients in his care.
do u mean as in coutis? who is he going to peak on? Mo's chest?
I NEED DETAILS PEOPLE!!!
