All this hyype and great results from OTC (Salazaar and Schumacher); what excctly does Rowlands do and who does he coach? Couldn't Vin have found someone better (and American for that matter?)

Make $110,000.
Unlimited travel.
1 assistant at $48,000
Unbelievable really
Nike backing with some decent contracts.
Altitude, warm weather, Europe.
Have to guess many college coaches would give anything for this position.
Vin is starting his own club after London 2012. He will be centered in NSD, WLA, OC area but will have runners from all over.
i dont think he does much...i mean he doesnt coach anybody really very good. just low profile athletes like nick symmonds russell brown who only ran 3:54 a couple weeks ago, lauren fleshman who won usa's outdoors, sally kipyego geena gall steve pifer ben bruce 8:21 last season, nicole blood, tyler mulder who was good last year, 3rd indoors 5th outdoors...you could always just look at otcelite.com and see their full roster if you want more info on them.
and yeah his personal achievements were pretty lame...8:07ish in the steeple, would barely even have the american record...and an olympic medal in the steeple...
im sure there are tons of coaches that would love to have his job, but the athletes i have talked to that ran for him/ are running for him think hes one of the best coaches out there and wouldnt want anyone else to replace him. coach vin and coach gags knew what they were doing when selecting a replacement to try and fulfill the amazing job gags was doing with the nike farm team/ otc athletes (in my biased opinion of course) :)
Vin coaches Russel Brown.
So after Vin, Jerry, and Alberto get down with our National meet, all of that support to produce one person who can for sure make our Olympic Team in Symmonds. Out of all the other names, only one will probably make the World Championships team.
The only developing that has occured is probably Ben Bruce and that may be more because the steeple is the easiest event in our country by far right now.
And who exactly would take this position (assuming it is renewable (or not) every 4 years? College coaches make decent money, job security, benefits, etc.
It is weak that they didn't fill the spot with an American, but a medal at the Olympic Games was probably the trade-off.
Still coaches Jemma Simpson from UK as well
Going just from what I've read, his athletes rate him very highly
When he ran that 8:07 the WR was only 8:05
Still witing to hear who he coaches who realistically stands a chance of making a US team aside from Symmonds and possibly Bruce?
Anyone else?
I seem to recall reading Chris Thompson 10k 27 min British Record Holder works a bit with Rowland

One thing makes a great coach..a great runner
Plenty of elite athletes fail miserably at coaching.
Thompson ran a great 10,000m last year, but I'm pretty sure he's fourth on the GBR all-time list, behind Jon Brown, Eamonn Martin, and Mo Farah.

He's not one of them. Look I would like to agree with you
He's got several successful athletes, eg Jemma Simpson - have you ever got a girl under 2 mins
I am sure there are a variety of reasons, but I am asking for athletes that rowlands coaches other than Symmonds (800) and possibly Ben Bruce (steeple) who can make the American team for World Championships?
John Cook no brainer ..........
russell brown is not coached by vin...the only oregon influence with otc training (other than what may have changed with the addition of uo athletes) is i heard coach rad helps in the strength and conditioning.
jemma and thompson have to count as athletes he has coached and developed for many years and both have realistic shots in britain. ben bruce russell brown lauren fleshman (won the 5k at usa's last year)...of course nick as mentioned, he coaches sally kipyego who ran like 14:38 under his coaching last year. geena gall has real potential to make the teams this year and the next...we wont count lachlan and wheating as lachlan is so new and i dont know what the dynamic is with vin and training wheating, im sure hes instrumental in the least. bridget franek in the steeple and ian dobson isnt done i think.
i think thats at least 9 who have the ability to compete for teams under his direction including sally if she competes for kenya. maybe one of the running sites like runnerspace or flotrack could ask someof these athletes what they think of him cuz they will have plenty of good things to say
