In the DMR, Blankenship looked unstoppable. Should be an epic battle between Bayer and him in mile today. Cory Leslie ran real strong mile leg to beat all the rest and got the stick a distant 5th and led chase pack to 2nd.

As an earlier poster said, Blankenship's a "gamer". He knows how to win. What was his split? Whether he wins or not today in the mile, he will make it interesting, regardless of pace. If it's pathetically slow, he's got the speed to kick with any one. I'm sure he will also want to run the 5000m later. Plasencia almost had to tie him down to keep him out of the 5000 last year, even when the Gophers had a big lead. It will be a good, close meet btw OSU, Wisco, Indiana and Minnesota.
Is blankenship a junior or a senior?

Good question. I know he transferred to the U of M a couple of years ago. He may have had to sit a while, so guessing he's a JR. Anyone with a definitive answer?
Minnesota website says senior.

He's a 4th year, but Mississippi state didn't have indoor so he's a junior indoors, but senior outdoor, and I think he will win the mile today and make it very interesting in the 5k if MN is still in it
Finals
1 Blankenship, Ben JR Minnesota 4:01.14 10
2 Bayer, Andrew SO Indiana 4:01.96 8
3 Thode, Jeff SO Iowa 4:02.00 6
4 Leslie, Cory JR Ohio State 4:03.59 5
5 Rucks, Luke SR Wisconsin 4:07.82 4
6 Hatz, Alexander FR Wisconsin 4:08.02 3
7 Borchers, Samuel SR Penn State 4:09.64 2
8 Weatherford, Andy SR Indiana 4:09.81 1
9 Hubers, Ben JR Indiana 4:10.46
No more dicking around in the Big 10 mile this year! Three big things out of this, MN obviously couldn't be happier, Wisco got 7 pretty big pts, and IU cannot be happy with the pts that go with 3 milers with high expectations of placing high in this race

Way to go Ben! Great repeat win from last year.....now rest up for the 5k!!??
Yeah, Hubers fell early on, supposedly.
IU finds anything to complain about. Stay on your feet in a race. If anyone has a complaint its Wisco in the 800.
What ended up happening to Mellon in the 8?
wow both psu guys didnt finish in the 5k. whata joke. looks like psi did not show up this weekend.
How is what you just said any different from the previous post? "if anyone has something to complain about it's wisco in the 800"... That is exactly the same thing. And yes there should have been a dq in the mile. Blankenship tried to make a stupid move he didn't have the room to make and was obviously talking and then Hubers hit the ground. The official raised the yellow flag but the results were not changed. The difference between the mile and the 800 was the fact that Hubers actually finished the race. If a Minnesota runner got dq'd in the 800 for what he did, Blankenship sure as hell should have been dq'd as well.

However, the 800 DQ was reversed, so that one must not have been deserving of a DQ then either. I haven't seen or heard what happened in either of the races. I cannot for all intensive purposes comment on if it was an obvious trip or not, but common, its fricken Indoor track, there is going to be some bumping and shoving, i personally think it should take a lot to DQ someone in a race, indoor especially- those Mid-D races can be ridiculous going that fast on those tight corners, bound to have some possible problems
whats with the slow DMR times? Maybe i shouldnt say slow, but i thought somebody in the big ten would comewithin 16 seconds of the auto.

Well the conference record is only 940 by a decent team from Michigan with guys like Nate Brannen and Andrew Ellerton on it- the reason is one, its a very slow track, two, everyone is doubling back, and usually the 1200 starts out tactical, and some teams do not field their best milers on the end of the race, which makes a huge difference- also its tough for some milers and 800 guys to double back after a prelim an hour or so earlier
First, this is a flat 200m track. Second, with so many races in 28 hours few teams are deep enough to field every one that would make a fast team. It is a compromise which things you chose, and the DMR often is a bit light at Big Tens. Some meets do the DMR on the night before, giving a day of rest.
GOOOO GOPHERS!!!!!!!!!!
Gophers back to back to back, can't wait for this same thread next yr.
