I had 12 years of being almost constantly injured with all lower leg bone and tissue problems. Compression socks have saved my running life. I'm 34, have no idea what kind of talent I have/had at really any distance. At 21, I was a 32min 10k guy off of 50 miles a week. I have spent almost 18 mos running slow. Being able to run is awesome for me now after all the problems. All my issues in the last 7 years were the same thing. The Periosteum would get inflamed after the pounding would start adding up and become so painful that I had to take time off. I never run on anything but the trails here in Eugene. I drive to the trails. I never run on pavement.
I want to atleast try to get something out of the limited ability I have left. I am just extremely nervous about hard running, as that type of pounding is what always caused the injuries. Every time I would try to start doing harder running I would get injured. If I can't handle the pounding of harder running after this much slow running and being careful then I don't think I ever will be able to. How the hell do I ease into speedwork? I would like to be able to run a few road 5k's and 10k's this summer. I just want to be able to maintain health. I do all my easy stuff between 7:30-8:30 and a 4-5 mile tempo run(sort of) every week to two weeks but I never run faster than 6:30-7:00 doing that.
