Had License, Debit Card and Social Security Card Stolen - HELP

My wife recently lost her wallet, but knew where she misplaced it. 30 minutes later it was gone. She had her License, Debit Card, and Social Security Card in it. I'm assuming the type of person to not turn in a lost wallet is also the type to steal an identity . . .

Not sure what to do. We alerted our bank, froze our debit card and put fraud alert on our credit (lasts for 90 days).

How worried should we be of identity theft? Is Fraud alert sufficient? Will we have to consistently check our credit for the rest of our lives? Would something like signing up for a service at freecreditreport.com be beneficial?

Any help would be great. Thanks.

File a police report, online if available in your city. No, the police will likely not be able to recover any of the stolen items, but once you are in the system, you will be able to back up other claims and alert other police agencies.

Why the hell would your wife be stupid enough to carry around her social security card in her wallet? a 9 digit number shouldn't be that hard to memorize

This is a good point. I've never understood anyone carrying around a social security card. What sort of everyday instance or encounter requires your presenting a SS card. It makes no sense. Mine's been in a desk drawer for a loooooong time.

I've had jobs that required a photocopy of my SS card when I started. I don't know what else you'd use it for, though.
