Running uses our legs in a very specific way and in a lot more repetitive fashion that most other sports which may require forward/backward/upward/sideway motions.
I strongly suspect that to maintain overall balance in my leg strength it would be great if I could incorporate some non running exercise (that's not core or strength training). As I've read in other posts, many runners find themselves hurt easily now when playing soccer, skiing etc.
What other sports would you guys recommend as a complement (not necessarily in the sense of cross training, it doesn't have to help running). Ideally, it would also not increase injury risk much, so that it can be included even when training hard.
I stopped doing anything else but running 3 years ago. Now here are my thoughts on sports I "could" do are:
- rollerblading (I'm good at it)
- skateboarding (I'm good at it, but not at stunts really)
- biking
- soccer?
- swimming? (it's depressing)
- something else? like tennis/badminton/squash?
- I'm short and small, no basketball or football please
