I'm a far lefty, but I don't see how are those right-wing talking points. The OP is saying that both the Democrats and Republicans protect their sacred cows, even though those are where the real cost cutting possibilities are. I think you need to re-read the OP's post.

It all comes down to elections. Members of the two parties pander to voters by appealing to their traditional sawhorses during election cycles. Once they actually get to Washington, they do whatever they have to do to fit in. Take the Sarbanes-Oxely Act of 2002, the most substantial piece of financial regulation in existence. Michael Oxely was a Republican. But aren't Republicans supposed to be free market extremists? Obama's military budget for 2011 is bigger than what Republicans proposed in 2010. But I thought Democrats were supposed to be anti-war? You're a grade A fool if you think there is any difference between the parties. There are a few individuals, like Ron Paul and Denis K. who buck the trends... but the rest are all the same.

Dems believe the same about cutting welfare spending for those who do not work?

I noticed that Faux News got big into whacking at Unions, especially gov't Unions, right about the time that Wall Street was being taken to task for their obscene salaries & bonuses after f***ing the economy up with the CDSs and derivatives & who knows what other irregularities.

No, you misunderstood my post. The cost-saving measures are mine, and the party I designated next to each one is the one who protects it, even though it makes no fiscal sense for the American public.
