If you've been on letsrun long enough, surely you've seen me bitch about my past injuries. The main problem area was my shins. I've been running for 10 years now and always had shin pain. Tibial stress fractures and stress reactions, plus general nagging shin splints. I've finally been back to running consistently for the past 2 years or so, but never much over 30-40 mpw because of the pain. It was there, but I didn't want it to get worse or turn into a fracture, etc. Minimalism has helped to a point, but there was still pain.
Anyway, the reason for this thread is that I think I have finally found a "cure" for shin pain. A few months ago, I got some compression calf sleeves. Since I've worn them on my runs, I no longer have any pain. Most people get these for calf problems, but they work for my shins. They increase blood flow, plus the compression keeps things more stable, so not as much strain on tissue near my tibias.
I want to pass this info along to anyone else struggling with shin injuries. I wear the sleeves, but I'm sure the socks work just as well.
