Exlcuding the "Fire on the Track" documentary, what is the best Steve Prefontaine movie? Is "Prefontaine" or Without Limits" better?
Sorry to fire up any Pre and/or Oregon haters. I'm trying to get legit answers about the movies. Thanks.

Without Limits. It is my personal favorite and I've spoken to people who watched Pre run (about 5) and they all prefer Without Limits. Just a side note.
neither one is worth anything if you're asking malmo. both are the products of the nike marketing machine

I give a strong vote to Without Limits and I think the majority who have seen both would agree.
Little known fact...."Without Limits" was originally titled "Limitless (i.e. Without Limits)" but reconsidered right before release.
As a foreign guy, running around that era, I never understood the hype about Pre.
Now I get the whole Nike, Bowerman, Oregon thing.
As a runner though he is a post script. As an icon for the anti anal US system he's a star.
I'd pick the movie that looked at him as trail blazer, not a blazer over trails.
I'd also have to pick "Without Limits". Crudup is a much better actor than Jared Leto and Monica Potter a much better actress than Amy Locane.
And Donald Sutherland is a better actor than the dude from Full Metal Jacket.
Without Limits is better.
Prefontaine is actually filmed in a strange style that copies the format of Fire on the track. So you have actors speaking word for word to a camera, like a documentary.

My mistake. Didn't even think to go that route.
It seems as though "Without Limits" is the overwhelming favorite across all threads asking this question. Thanks.
No worries, was hoping to come across as informative and not a dick...a similar thread pops up at lest once a month, figured you could find a lot of information. And yes, without limits is ions better.
"Without Limits"....definitely a good one to watch while doing a LR on the tm.
