World population growth?

I suppose you could have asked the same questions in 1960 when we were at 3 Billion people.

Now we are at 6.7 billion and managed to survive and even thrive depending on your perspective.

Plenty of space in Kansas and Siberia but we may have to move some people to the moon some day.

Now, bear in mind that there are developed countries that have the opposite problem: too few children being born, hence an aging society.

Even though these countries have policies and other countries have negative growth, the world population is still skyrocketing. Projections over the next 50 years are for the WPG to double!.

Which projections are you talking about? The middle and "most likely" scenario from the UN has population peaking at between 9 and 10 billion, then dropping. Birth rates aren't even at a sustainable rate in just about every developed country outside of the United States (for many reasons). If the developing countries continue to make this demographic transition, the way that we did and China and India are doing now, then, hopefully, World population won't get too far out of control.

We've also passed the point of inflection on the population curve, so at least the rate of growth is decelerating.

The current rate of population growth is roughly 147 people per minute.

There are already way too many people, and we are living in a population bubble fueled by oil.

People breeding like crazy are exacerbating the problem.

As with all bubbles, there will be a crash. This is not a revelation, it is obvious.

Five years ago, in a London bar, I was chatting to an old Englishman who’d I’d met briefly years previously in Mombassa, now just retired from working all his life as a demographer, working on all the censuses in Kenya in the last 50 years.

He told me he’d watched the population grow from 8.6 million in 1962 to 11 million in 69, 15.3 million in 79, 21.4 million in 89, 28.7 million in 99 and was then around 34 million.

He was chewing over the fact that in his working lifetime, the population had quadrupled.

I see the population is now at 39 million.
