Bump
I hope not before I get to visit this April
looks like it, although not sure when..
Oh no! This isn't good. I'm reading Bill Rodger's book right now... they can't close his store!
You need to pay your rent if you expect to stay in business. If you can't pay rent then you shouldn't be in the space or in business. Seems like Bill Rodgers is struggling to stay afloat.
i pop in from time to time, i work a few blocks away. Its a tiny space, maybe 300 square feet. Everything there is overpriced. You can go to marathon sports across town and get the same stuff at least 10% cheaper.
There is a good amount of memorabilia on the walls , so i suppose its worth a visit. But having nice memorabilia doesn't pay the bills
Interesting story. Sounds like the Chicago mall company just wants big national chains so it can squeeze the maximum rent out of the tenants. Personally, I don't give a damn about high end clothing chains and all of that crap. They are going to turn Faneuil Hall and that area into just another boring mall. Seems like if the city owns it, they should have enough influence to insist that small local businesses get some kind of preference.
It would be a shame to lose Bill Rodgers' store. I'm sure he has to charge higher prices because his rent is higher, just like most mall stores, but that store is an institution.
Hasn't the online store been "going out of business" for years now?
Another sign of the Apocalypse?
First Vitruvian, now THIS????
I thought Obama was going to take care of everyone????
The rent is too DAMN HIGH
This kind of stuff happens all the time. The landlords only look for the quickest money but don't realize the longtime tenants are what made the property successful. They will get one lease deal from the national companies and those companies will all move out after they can't make any money. In about 5 years, the property will be on the downhill, the landlord will go bankrupt (AGAIN) and the city will have to use a bunch of taxpayer money to revive the property.
bringing in chain stores will not help employment or quality jobs and the profits will be funnelled out of state.

That makes it pretty interesting when the city is the actual owner of the property and leases to out of state landlord to sublease.
Wow...I hope it's still open by the Boston MArathon too..great place to go!!

Very funny. I hope enough people understand the reference.
Faneuil Hall Marketplace is now an odd choice for this store. They have a small space, below grade, and could probably make a go of it at another small space, below grade on Newbury St which gets better local runner traffic. FHM is good foot traffic but gets no visibility after hours and is all tourists. It is worth a visit if you have not been there, it's up there with Yankee Runner (Newburyport, MA) and Westchester RR (White Plains, NY) for good old shops with some quirks.
I am going to start a thread on old running shops that are hanging in there, let's support Bill and his Bro.
To the "The Rent is Too Damn High" guy...nice one!
Great idea!
That's where I used to buy my spikes during high school and college, would be a shame to see it go.
