The gov't. is hiding some evidence of alien visitation there. You can take tours to A51 from Las Vegas...fun!
Top Secret weapons systems and jet testing. It has a 12 MILE long runway and huge airspace in a remote area. It is perfect for testing out new things under the cover of secrecy - say, the F117A Stealth Fighter and B1A, B1B, and B2 bombers. It is well-known now that the various stealth aircraft were put through their paces there before ever seeing action.
I personally don't put much into the alien stuff there.
Some guy came on here and said he was going to break into Area 51...

Really 12 miles! Ah Bullshit! Groom lake is not even 4 mile from north to south. So where's this 12 mile runaway? Yucca flats? The longest runaway at Area 51 is just over 7km.

I was remembering something I read in Scientific American back in the early-mid 1990s that said ~12 miles long, 2nd longest paved runway in the world. Soooooooooo sorry to offend you.

I thought the government moved many of their top secret projects away from Area 51 because the secrecy of the place was becoming more and more compromised, or something like that.
Anyways, I always thought they just tested top secret aircraft like the Stealth there. I doubt there are any spaceships at Area 51.

I doubt there are any foreign "space ships" there, but I feel like there's a good chance that the military has some advanced type of fighter jets in development that could at least travel high enough to be in "space"

Area 51s reputation as a secretive, voodoo, alien, place serves the government very well. You'd be mistaken to believe that everything worth hiding, is hidden there.
