Sorry this is pretty long and thank you in advance for reading/commenting.
I got back into running after a long hiatus this past September. Trained fairly hard for 10 weeks, backed off some and then have been running consistently again since December.
During my long break from running I went from my college running weight of about 130 to over 150. Since returning to running I took off a good amount of weight and felt much better about myself. While only running running a little bit, but fairly intense I dropped my weight to a low of 136 about a month ago, post workout-then started seeing ,y morning weight close to 138 most days and my weight before bedtime around 140 post meal.
My routine was typically 4-6 days a week running 3-5 miles as cutdown runs, working myself pretty hard in terms of effort and the occassional workout-ie 6x400 or 2 miles easy 1 mile sub 5, 1 mile easy, etc. In addition I did core work and pullups/chinups/pushups almost daily.
Over the past 6 weeks I started lifting weights in addition to my running. I workout 6 days a week. My routine looks something like this:
Monday- lift upper body 25-40 minutes, then 5k running negative splitting, core work, dips/chinups/pullups
Tuesday- 4-5 miles more steady but still getting down to 630-45 pace for last 2 miles
Wednesday- repeat of monday- sometimes equal wight and reps or less reps of higher weight-occasionally add one or two new exercises
Thursday- 4-5 miles usually negative splitting a little faster than Tuesday
Friday- repeat of Monday
Sat/Sun- 1 day off, 1 day just running 3-5 miles cutdown
I have been weighing myself pretty consistently and over the last 10 days my weight has been on the rise. This morning I woke up and weighed 144. I am not sure if this is due to the working out or my eating habits. I do seem to be eating a little more. Sometimes healthier, sometimes less. I have cut out the diet soda-replaced it with water. I only drink water, the occassional coffee/tea at work, and a few beers a week which hasn't changed. Is it typical to see such a difference in weight gain over such a short period while beginning a weight lifting regime? I definately am a lot stronger than I was 6 weeks ago, but doesn't seem like I gained 6 pounds of muscle?! Does anybody have any experience like this or know what might be going on?
